I’d love to see the first 24 rounds of Jeffries-Sharkey 2 that was as good quality as McGovern-Gans, the full Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight, Greb-Gibbons 4, the full Gans-Nelson fight, and that one round demolition of Pedlar Palmer by McGovern
Perhaps not exactly what you’re asking for but I can tell you of footage that I saw for myself years back but haven’t seen since. Johnson vs Burns - you know the point when the film freezes which they suggest was the very moment the police shut off the cameras - well, the filming didn’t actually end there. I’ve seen a further 5-10 seconds at least. Even though Burns looks like he was about to go down for all money when the film stops, he didn’t. He remained upright, taking further wallops from Johnson. It seems Jim Jacobs simply edited and cut the footage at a point that would “appear” to fit the moment when the cameras were stopped.
As to never seeing any footage, I’d love to see Jeffries vs Fitz 2 - among Fitz’s most outstanding power punching displays.
Apparently it was supposed to be filmed, but Jeffries was being cheap and didn’t want to pay his part in getting the film set up.
There used to be a website, which I “think” is gone now, that was set up by a descendant in respect of Bob Fitz which also listed various old fights known to have been filmed, including reproductions (viz: actors playing the roles). It was a work in progress, compiling info known to date, but it was still a handy data base to refer to. We know some fights were set to be filmed with the conditions ultimately not suitable or the resulting films of unsatisfactory quality. I’d have to say that I don’t know that Jeff was too hot in terms of business acumen. You can be too cheap not realising that sometimes you’ve got to spend some in order to make even more. I believe his return fight vs Fitz was popularly received at the time, so film would've been a viable investment, but I could be wrong on the recollection of how the public viewed the upcoming fight.
