He'll make the HOF in 5 years no question. He was simultaneously great, but also EXTREMELY overrated on this forum.
Probably a lengthy option-weighing phase. Especially with the potential paydays Turki is known to provide.
Man that sucks. I was at least hoping he would try and win another belt before hanging it up. Lomachenko was such a joy to watch in his prime and I always looked forward to seeing him fight. It's a damn shame that he was unable to get fights with Mikey Garcia or Tank Davis and was also robbed of becoming undisputed against Haney. That would have been a great swan song had he decided to quit after that fight. But at least he still ends his career on a win. Enjoy retirement Champ. Boxing will miss you.
I remember somewhere there towards the end of my childhood he was seen as the heir apparent, this incredible future of boxing type figure who we’d talk about like we do Duran and he’d become decade defining. Shame he fell so short of the hype, I liked him but he never overly impressed me.
World Champion in 3 fights Two Weight World Champion in 7 fights Three Weight World Champion in 12 fights Unified 3 of the 4 belts at lightweight P4P number 1 for a while, and was in the P4P top 10 for almost a decade. 17 of his 21 pro fights were world title fights and he won the vast majority of them. Fantastic career. Definitely a first ballot hall of famer.
The consecutive 'no mas' performances making high level fighters quit was something really special and will be forever remembered. During this period when he was fighting in the optimal weightclasses for his size (and not undersized at lightweight), he looked unbeatable, you really thought you could be looking at fighter that might go down as one of the greatest.
At least he didn't get dropped & spanked by a wrestler in front of half the sporting world embarrassing boxing in the process. Hows your fat mess of a girlfriend doing since Usyk slappped him about for 24 rounds?
He was dealing with an injury, and I think he might even had surgery to fix it. It was talked about a while back that his career was hinging on how that injury healed. And now he has finally decided to retire.
