It was also 5 years after there original bout and Garcia’s last fight, Garcia was 213lbs (20+”lbs higher then the first bout) he cashed out against Ken because I think Nortons management thought it’d be good for his image to beat the former 160lber who KO’d him.

Okay but Norton was 16 fights in against Garcia and that's used against him by several in this thread. Ruiz was almost 30 fights as a pro against Lawrence. At their best i see Kenny as the favorite

Norton has been overrated h2h becasue of his ali fights, but now he is getting underrated and there are a select few posters here who will do anything to undermine him

Have you seen Norton “on his bike” his flailing attempts on the ropes against Shavers and Formean? lol LeDoux had Norton hurt and stumbling and of course Garcia too Ruiz hit harder then those guys, backed people up better, was bigger, faster and you’re right he was really good at countering guys and punching with them (which is the bread and butter of pressure fighting…) I think it’s unlikely it goes the distance.

The Garcia bout is to mostly show his chin isn’t up to scratch. Norton isn’t underrated… no, no I think I’ve got a balanced evaluation of the guy he was a contender type like Ruiz with some good wins and an upset. I’d say Ruiz excusing there upset wins would have the deeper resume?

Norton took up boxing late, didn't have a world level am career, and never developed the instincts of a lifelong fighter. That's why he unraveled so easily. The guy had a narrow comfort zone.

Ruiz seems more inconsistent, so I'd put my money on Norton on the hopes Ruiz has an off night.

Ruiz won 9/10 rounds against a guy on a 9 fight winning streak with some top 30 names in there. And Lawrence finished his career with a single stoppage loss early on against Stiverne.

    These aren't comparable situations.

He beat bigger stronger fighters who hit harder than Garcia in real life, so why didn't Nortons weak chin forbid this ? Ruiz's power doesn't come close to Shavers, Foreman or Cooney

I don't think Norton ever beat someone who could crack like Ruiz.

Yet couldn't stop him. Lawrence is a bum and the same size as Norton. Liakhovic has a comparable chin to norton and Ruiz couldn't stop him. The entire point is Ruiz isn't a puncher, never has been. So more often than not Norton outboxes or outworks him in the pocket, his defense and inside fighting is superior in there based on the Quarry fight

Who hit harder than Garcia that he beat? (Bobick? lol) It also isn’t just about power, it’s about Ruiz’s style in combination with hitting hard enough to crack Norton which he 0 doubt does. You have to understand Norton was a late starter, instincts were all wrong he folded under pressure badly he read self help books, sparred LHW’s so he didn’t get disheartened and waited 5 years to rematch Garcia once his shell was opened up he was squishy inside and got a beating.

Based on a fight with a shot Quarry? Okay Marky… are you going to ignore the Joshua bout? Joshua’s chin is better than Nortons for my 0.2$ he got up to win, fought a guy who hit like and was better then Shavers, fought multiple guys that probably undo Norton really… honestly I think Norton might quit like Joshua he was famously mentally fragile.

Neither one of them are anywhere close to great, but I guess I'd lean Norton since Ruiz is usually a whale.
