    Which would be your choice of all the bouts between 1980-89 that Roberto,Thomas,Marvin and Ray had with each other?

    1. Leonard over Hagler

    2. Leonard over Hearns I

    3. Duran over Leonard I

    4-5. (t) Hagler over Hearns/Hearns over Duran

    It’s interesting that Duran only won one fight vs fellow Kings (even if you throw in Benitez).

    In all fairness to Roberto,he was the oldest out of the four and had the lightest prime fighting weight.

    I get the tie, it's close.
    I lean toward Hearns over Duran.
    No one was doing that again,so dramatically, over Duran.
    But yes the Hagler v Hearns fight was something else.

    Number one for me, it's Leonard's coming back from near defeat, to ko Hearns.
    Brilliant fight and great win for Ray.

    Are you asking from a p4p perspective, Stevie?

    If so, surely it can only be either Duran, who was peak at LW, beating the consensus 2nd greatest WW of all time, or Leonard, who was peak at WW, beating a consensus top 3 MW of all time.

    Duran gets it for me, as:

    1. SRL was greater than Hagler;
    2. Duran beat SRL more clearly than SRL beat Hagler;
    3. The SRL Duran beat was prime, whereas the Hagler that SRL beat was past prime.

    If you factor in that the SRL who beat Hagler was also past prime, then perhaps there's an argument, but if you're purely asking which win demonstrated the greatest p4p achievement, regardless of the condition of the victor, then it's clearly Duran's victory over SRL imo, which is one of the greatest p4p wins in boxing history.

    For me, it's Duran over Leonard in Montreal but Leonard over Hearns and Hagler over Hearns are right up there.

    Have to go with "The Brawl in Montreal"--Duran was absolutely possessed--he was NOT losing! (Just like Joe Frazier in the FOTC.) But Leonard battled him in the trenches every second and came pretty close to pulling it off! To this day, it might be my all-time favorite fight!!

    Hello,Greg.

    I was wondering about it in the terms of the best single victory per se. You make excellent points in a very fine post.

    Cheers Stevie, I think a fighter who was a natural LW at their peak, beating a prime top 2 WW of all time, is definitely the best single victory of the given options, and possibly in all of boxing history.

    I looked it up and you’re right — he did!

    And I can make an argument that Leonard over Duran II is as great a win (or greater) than Duran’s win in Montreal. I won’t quite go there, but being the man who made an uninjured Duran quit in the middle of a round is one of the most ‘I drank your milkshake’ moments in sports history, certainly in boxing history.

    The ‘pretty boy’ made the most macho of macho men take his toys and go home.

    (Ray also ran Hagler off to Italy. Leonard ate men’s souls.)

    Making Duran that frustrated to the point of getting him to quit is certainly an incredible achievement cuz the guy was a mentally tough as they come, however i would also take into account the fact that Durán's physical state at the moment was certainly not his best, probably his lowest moment ever tbh

    Still a great achievement nonetheless, props to Ray Leonard.

    Certainly not the worst physical shape of his career, even to that point. He didn’t quit because of anything physical and he was in the fight on the scorecards (which he didn’t know for sure but had to feel he had taken a few rounds).

    I think Ray humiliated him (handing Duran receipts for his clowning Leonard late in the fight in Montreal) and he saw it was only going to get worse from there. Leonard had zeroed in — he wasn’t pouring on the offense but he was getting through cleanly — and Roberto knew he wasn’t going to be able to bully his way through the rest of the fight.

    He simply didn’t wanna take his whupping like a man. Folded like a pup tent when things didn’t go his way, which is usually what bullies do.
