Ali ended the first round with a headlock. That was hilarious. Sugar Ray Leonard also ended the first round of his match with Marvin Hagler with a a headlock. I suspect that was intentional.

Foreman said Ali wasn't the greatest fighter he ever fought, he was the greatest MAN. R.I.P champs both. Ali is one of those people who can bring a tear to my eye if I think about him for any length of time. Never met him, miss him every day.

The mind plays tricks on one. I'm watching the fight now. There were two headlocks in the first round but not at the end. There was a headlock at the end of the fifth round and then Ali makes a face. Hilarious. The fifth round was when George really shot his bolt.

George said he feared Frazier. He didn't fear Ali. That has to be the mother of all mistakes, especially when George had to be familiar with his career arc.

Man, I could be misremembering also but round 5 and Ali making a face, isn’t that when he also pokes his tongue out also? - during the commentary, I think NFL Legend Jim Brown said the “face” was for him - because I think Jim picked against his old mate Ali vs Foreman. Ali was something. Lol.

George might have had a normal, healthy fear of Frazier at worst but I find it hard to believe that it was to the degree that a later, more cuddly and loveable George described.

I’ve never seen a more homicidal look than the one Foreman gave Frazier during pre fight instructions.

Of course Foreman’s “knocking knees” were conveniently out of camera frame and after the first bell sounded, George’s legs, perfectly set to cut off the ring. did not appear impaired in any way. Lol.

I know he winked at one of the young women who carried the rounds signs. He also gave George a light contemptuous shove after one of the rounds. He was sui generis. I reckon some would say there were better boxers, but there was never a better showman.

That’s it, it was a wink that Jim Brown said was meant for himself - perhaps Jim simply didn’t notice the hot piece sitting behind him - lol.

Jim Brown was at the Cleveland Summit along with Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, and some other famous Black athletes to discuss Ali's opposition to the draft. Jim Brown was also there to celebrate Muhammad Ali's victory over Sonny Liston in Miami Beach along with Malcolm X, and Sam Cooke.

He was certainly in the thick of it, mate. It would have been an interesting meeting.

They made a movie about the evening, "One Night In Miami." If you ever get the chance watch it. Brown certainly respected Malcolm and was a firm believer in Black empowerment but he was not fond of the Nation of Islam. Aren't you from Australia? Everyone knows who Malcolm X was. In America Jim Brown was a cultural icon.

Thanks for that. It's on Prime so i will take a look in coming weeks. You've reminded me i need to track down Malcolm X as well. I find such movies quite interesting, historically.
