I don't know, not easy here, Young had a bad style for Foreman. Surely Foreman before Ali was a more confident fighter but Young's defense, fast and counterpunching skills would have been a problem for Big George.
Based on what though Swag ? Young is world's apart from Norton, Frazier, stylistically neither of those fighters can fight on the backfoot. Young is an extremely durable tricky defensive fighter and Foreman had issues vs boxers. The only somewhat relevant boxer Foreman fought who was somewhat reminiscent of Young was Peralta who was a tricky boxer. And yet Foreman went 21 rounds with him over 2 fights so I'm not seeing the logic behind why people are predicting Foreman to stop Young early. Especially since Young is historically a very tough fighter to stop and his style is a troubling one for Foreman.
Perhaps I just need to walk away from the computer for a while, or simply just ignore Young threads, but I'm going to be very honest and level with you and say the discussion here, and not just in this thread, of Jimmy Young ... who I thought was basically garbage and pulled against to the level of hoping his opponents would leave him unconscious and twitching n real time, and I still maintain he should have been disqualified or declared knocked out in the fight with Ali he supposedly won ... has made me utterly despise him.
If Young was garbage then the golden era of 1970s Heavyweights must be terrible then since he had success against 3 of the top 5 Heavyweights from that era. I think you're very harsh with your criticism you don't have to like Young and I agree I wasn't a fan of his performance vs Ali. But there was nothing wrong with his performances vs Lyle x2, Norton, Foreman, which were good performances especially the Norton fight which I enjoyed.
Yes, of course, that's why I said that Foreman before Ali was a more confident fighter. Difficult to predict here.
Yep absolutely. I can't even begin to imagine how George must have felt after losing to Ali. That.. being champ, the way he destroyed Joe and ken, having people shouting your name. Then losing all that and your condolence is wrecked.
George already lost to Young in his prime. Or do we want to make another "Foreman was in his prime for only 3 fights" BS?
Is what it is, we will have to agree to disagree and I am going to try to avoid Young threads moving forward.
