Tyson Fury's 2015 win over Wlad ushered in a new era of Heavyweights that, imo, has been the third best in its long history, behind only the 70's and 90's. Not only did we have a number of champions and one ATG champion, we also had an incredibly strong B division of heavyweights. Any of them able to cause an upset to all but (probably) Usyk.

I believe this year, will be the changing of the guard, with Dubois, Wardley, Kabayel and Itauma set to be the next eras top fighters. With Wilder, Joshua, Usyk and Fury heading towards taking L's or retirement.

    Looking back at the 15-25 era, the division truly was stacked;

    Champions

    Tyson Fury
    Anthony Joshua
    Deontay Wilder
    Wladimir Klitschko
    Charles Martin
    Andy Ruiz

    Top contenders

    Dyllian Whyte
    Dereck Chisora
    Kubrat Pulev
    Alexander Povetkin
    Luis Ortiz
    Bermaine Stiverne
    Bryant Jennings
    Carlos Takam
    Joseph Parker
    Big Bang Zhang
    Adam Kownacki
    Joe Joyce
    Robert Helenius
    Lucas Browne

Unfortunatley, history suggests we're in for a relatively weak showing after such a strong time for heavyweights. Post Lewis/90's era, we had the domination of the Klitschkos. Post Ali/70's era, we had a long reign via Larry Holmes. Hopefully the new wave of hw's can break the trend.

What do you think, third best or nah?

Half of the contenders and champions you've listed are trash or outright bums

Stiverne held a belt, he is a friggin bum
Martin held a belt, as stripped belt. He is a friggin bum
AJ is a bodybuilding almost bum who bought belts off aforementioned bum
Ruiz Jr isn't a bum but he's a failure and a proper fat pudding
Wilder had a touch of death and Ortiz pretty much saves him from bum status and his Fury trilogy
Usyk and Fury are top class leagues ahead
Wlad was decent but weak opponents and he was a canvas cheat coddled in Germany. Both Fury and Usyk fought won on away soil numerous times because they are true fighters

I usually don't chime in to heavy on these strength of era discussions but what's generally thought of as the 3rd best?

70s and 90s are usually seen as top 2 but after that I don't really see much consistency.

To me a great era is an era where great fights are made. It is the era where I have begun to box and to follow boxing and to love the sport in general.
To me there have been many great emotional highlights in those fights. So I am happy with this era even if Joshua Wilder at the right time would have been great and in general a few more fights could have been made.

Hard to rank it though, with my bias. It's certainly not better than 90s and 70s.

Only someone that has never laced up gloves or had any kind of fight would call a ranked fighter a "bum". Everything you say after that word is meaningless.

The 60s, easily. I'd also rate Joe Louis's and the Jeffries/Johnson eras better and you could make cases for the Marciano Dempsey/Tunney eras. This era sucks.

I'd entertain the late 30's early 40's as it was stacked but Marciano era? Same as Wlads, dominant champion with few genuine contenders. Dempsey/Tunney? Without searching, could you honestly think of 10 good fights from the HW 20's? This era has produced plenty of amazing fights and multiple round/fights of the year.

Charles Martin is the worst HW "champ" in history. He does not belong under the banner of "truly stacked".

    But methinks your trolling anyway.

But really, you've only named one for sure you'd rate higher and two slightly less confident picks. So, pretty close I'd say.

Yeah I came to a similar conclusion. No real standout after those two but from a fan perspective, I would rate this last 10 years as really being up there. Lots of contenders, several great fights and upsets. It's been a really good time for HW's.

You could say that if you were talking about Fury or Stiverne's titties, but that's the only legitimate use of the term related to this era!
