Jack Johnson Vs James J Corbett?

Over 12 rs, who gets the win?

I like Jack by late stoppage, he's the tougher, more skilled guy in the fight.

 

I’d say Johnson edges a close decision. Johnson never fought someone as good from long range and with movement and speed like Corbett, there’s a good chance he makes Johnson look ugly early as he chases Jim which I’m not sure he’d be used to doing. By the middle or late rounds I could see Jack using his strength advantage to bully Corbett in the clinch and force the fight his way in the end.

 

I'd give Corbett the edge in foot speed,everything else,includingthe verdict, goes to Johnson.

 

I’ve got Johnson also by KO/stoppage.

As an aside, how much grief will acid tongued Jack give Jim for his thong during the fight?

I would go with Jack Johnson by wide decision win, assuming fair scoring.

 

I pick Johnson but remember the trouble that O'Brien caused Jack over 6 rounds. And Corbett seemed but a bigger, stronger, better version of O'Brien.

 

Johnson easily and he won't need a solar plexus punch to win.

And how could it be only a 12 rounder? I bet Corbett would demand 40 rounds so he could run like Scull.

Jeffries said O Brien could give anybody trouble over 6 rounds.
O Brien himself said Johnson would beat him over a longer distance. Knowing it was a no decision fight and O Brien was no puncher , Johnson did not train for Philadelphia Jack.

I guess he would take Corbett more seriously.

 

Johnson for sure. He had a large size and strength advantage and know how to use it to grind the other guy out. TBH Corbett has never impressed me on the footage I have seen of him.

 

He got lucky imo, beating the shell of Sullivan.
Then old Fitz got him perfect.
Jack would end up busting Corbett up, Over the course of the fight.
