Official for September thirteenth at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, airing live on Netflix. IBF, WBO, WBC, and WBA titles super middleweight titles at stake (1st, 3rd, 5th and 5th defense of Canelo respectively).

Crawford, an undefeated four division world champion from 135 through 154lbs, is leapfrogging the MW class entirely to make his SMW debut, having never above super welter and that just once his most recent outing. This will be his first match in 13 months, and only his second in over two years. Álvarez's own schedule hasn't been exactly breakneck, yet he is 4-0 in the same timespan as Crawford only fighting Israil Madrimov.

This is being promoted by Netflix as "one of the biggest boxing events of all time", despite no supporting undercard announcements being officially made yet. It's already getting crossover mainstream exposure, with the upcoming press conference (scheduled for Sunday at 1:30pm on YouTube) advertised multiple times on this week's episode of WWE RAW.

Álvarez is perceived as the larger man, having campaigned from 140lb through 175lbs (and considered by most at least a natural middle if not super middle; whereas Crawford is probably a natural welter if anything), but is giving up half an inch of height and 3½″ of reach.

    They have one common opponent:
    • Amir Khan - lost via TKO6 against both men. (Álvarez in 2016; Crawford in 2019)

I'm picking Crawford, but I do not feel completely confident about this because of the size.

Here comes another unoriginal Canelo bash post (as if he needs more). When has Canelo ever looked good against top competition? He looked like crap against freaking Floyd Mayweather. Tiny little Floyd made it look easy. He got multiple corrupt gifts against an old GGG. He was blown out and schooled by Bivol. He wouldn't touch Beterbiev with a 10 foot pole.

So, I ask sincerely, when has this mythical big bad Canelo ever actually shown up in the ring? Against Amir Khan? Remember that Khan was winning rounds. Are we to believe that Crawford can't win rounds? Against Caleb the feather fist Plant? Against Kirkland? Where is this big bad Canelo we hear about?

Canelo is a B+ fighter who has never shown any ability to kick it into high gear. Crawford might be smaller, but there is a wide gap in ability p4p.

Where is this so called big, bad, mean Canelo that we hear about? Canelo, mean in the ring? lol.

I hope Crawford boxes his ginger face off for 11 rounds then Canelo KO's him in round 12

So they both end up looking like overrated dirt

Crawford is 37 he ain't a spring chicken and deep down he knows he can lose and just play the I was smaller game...

Yep! Two guys with much better resumes than Fury, and didn't have to resort to fighting guys outweighed by 30-40 pounds

Who's the last high level switch hitter Canelo faced? Cintrón? I can't remember if Kermit actually even got a chance to switch to southpaw, though.

    Ryan Rhodes, maybe?

I don't expect you to know, since you don't really watch boxing other than Fury. Fury's best win is a highly overrated Wilder who had a garbage resume or old Wlad. Cool legacy bro... But hey, Fury was at least really tall and heavy.

When this fight was first mentioned I didn't see any way for Crawford to win the fight. The power and size differences (not reach or height) seemed too much to overcome. Then Alvarez' fight with William Scull happened. Canelo looked old, plodding, and lacking in any of the explosive power he had for most of his career.

I am still picking Canelo because Bud is also aging but whereas before I thought an Alvarez victory was a foregone conclusion, I now believe the bout to be much closer to a 50/50 battle.

I don't think Canelo has a very pronounced power advantage at all, honestly. It wasn't like Canelo was a lethal lights-out puncher at 147/154.

It just seems like he does because he went up so high in weight, and continued to stop larger men (at least up through Plant) but we have no reason to believe Crawford couldn't do the same. Not significantly hurting Madrimov at 154 is no more an indictment of the possibility of carrying his power up higher in weight than was Canelo's failing to drop Cotto in 12 rounds.

The fact that they are a combined 71 years makes me feel so goddamned old.

I've been following Canelo's career since he was a teenager almost twenty years ago, and Bud's since he was a LW prospect on ESPN2 FNF undercards thirteen years ago.

When first mentioned a couple years ago, I had Canelo winning. Still going with that. But would love to be proven wrong.

I'm not looking at power from a KO point of view. I just believe that Canelo has consistently, heavier, more thudding shots
