Honestly I think Marciano would beat Liston over the head with a dozen club like punches a round and stop him, Liston wasn’t this destroyer of anybody Zora Folley? (Glass) Eddie Machen? (Injured UD) Cleveland Williams… famously GLASS? he could hit hard but let’s not get carried away in assuming he’d “Patterson” Marciano, Liston was slow and his jab is exactly the kind of thing Goldman would prepare him for.
Rocky was no dummy and understood Liston’s positive attributes, which he made reference to himself but NO, that stare isn’t part of the armoury Rocky would respect or be affected by - no reason to believe that Rocky would fear anyone.
Just speaking personally, it probably would’ve worked on me though I’d probably crack a joke to try and break that steely gaze - “Hey Sonny, how about that cop you inverted and dropped into a bin? Too funny man. You’re a scream!”
I just see Rocky out working liston and taking it to him with that SuzieQ. It would find a home eventually and liston imo was NOT any tougher than Moore or Walcott in the chin department
I don’t like Marciano H2H but the photo is interesting … curious about the story … I remember reading somewhere that Liston was disrespectful to him at a training camp but wonder why … Ingo said many critical things about Liston as a fighter but they ended up decent acquaintances post title when Sonny fought multiple times in Europe.

That could help or perhaps get you killed even more quickly. I reckon Sonny might’ve been one of those guys that could be placated by a rendition of “Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty…..”, calming him and causing him to quietly lay down in the foetal position. Then again, that attempt to diffuse him could also go completely in the opposite direction…….
He’s honestly probably thinking “you’re not as big as I thought” that was my initial reaction, Liston looks a bit pin headed and not overly large, just tube shaped. Ali was significantly bigger then them both… look at this photo then compare Rocky’s stare down with Ali - he looks muscle bound, like he’s carrying too much useless weight and it’s stiffened him up.
