Tyson could make cruiserweight with day before weigh ins, however, Tyson showed in his own time that he could handle modern day super heavyweights. Bruno, Bonecrusher Smith, Andrew Golota, Tony Tucker and Razor Ruddock would certainly be fighting as heavyweights in 2025. So the size of today's big men wouldn't be a problem in and of itself.
Based on what ? Joshua got referee help against Parker when Parker wanted to take the fight to him and aj has never beaten a mover before. Go ahead, name the mover aj has beaten ? Tucker went the distance with Lennox Lewis as an old man and 12 with peak Tyson. Joshua Isn't stopping anyone here. As a matter of fact, Tucker is more likely to stop aj, because he has been stopped twice and dropped far mlre times. What fight demonstrated that aj has a good chin ? Klitschko was told by Vitali to not got for the KO after he had him on skates, so I don't even count that He could handle Cooneys power just fine. Comney landed flush regardless of what you think, these are facts of the bout, Cooney might hit harder than Tyson. So clearly it's a matter of styles. No, Joshua has only ever outmaneuvered old men and an cement footed fatter version of Ruiz who stopped him in the first fight. Tillis had underrated skills. Joshua has overrated skill Joshuas best wins are almost all old men and stiffs. Old Pulev was a stiff from a bygone era. Povetkin was 40. Klitschko was 41 and inactive. Helanius was 40. Takam was a fringe contender and 36. Ngannou was 37. Ajs only 2 stoppage losses came from young pressure fighters. The first prime powerpuncher aj had ever fought was Dubois and look what happened. He got destroyed in 5 rounds . Ruiz was also in his prime and washed aj, but you think he is beating a 20 year old Mike Tyson who makes Povetkin look like a russian offbrand ? Ruddock was as bigger than Douglas, hit harder than Douglas, offered a massive amount of resistance and Tyson still beat him. Tucker was in there to win it. This idea that Tyson can't beat people who have some grit and skill is nonesense. Tucker had already beaten douglas so you can't even use the size and skill argument there. Anything else ? But those chances are slim. Past prime Wilder pushing Fury is a testament to how bad Fury is on the front foot. What top guy has Fury ever beaten on the front foot besides Wilder ? Please answer clearly. Tyson catches Wilder before Wilder catches Tyson. Wilder looked like uncoordinated crap against Ortiz who was old as crap and looked even worse in Wilder 3, he didn't even have his speed.
It's not inconceivable that he starts off at cruiserweight. But he'd be on a murderous rampage around the division and terrorize it and at that point jump up to heavyweight and be on the loose, repeating his rampaging ways.
Just stop it. Joshua struggled with a 40 year old Povetkin until he gassed in the 6th. He has no realistic chance against a Prime Tyson. Anyone arguing with this logic needs their head checked. Tyson does everything better than prime Povetkin, let alone old Povetkin
Tucker got beaten up by Bruce Seldon, what isn't AJ going to do to him? Meanwhile Pulev and Wallin tried to box AJ and got knocked out. Meanwhile AJ is a better boxer than Cooney and hits harder. Tillis had already lost to 8 men before he was fed to Tyson. Mike should have run through him and instead struggled greatly. AJ is easily better. Sounds like you are making a case that his and Tyson's opposition is comparable. Ruddock was small compared to AJ. Tucker had little power. AJ is better than both. Wilder throws straight punches whereas Tyson has to close the distance to throw his hooks. Wilder gets his chance first.
People overrate Tyson he was great but had his flaws as a fighter that I think plenty of fighters today could exploit especially Usyk and Fury. If Tyson can't overpower someone he tends to look pretty beatable and plenty of fighters today he can't just bully like he did in his prime.
Have to agree with this. There are certain styles and types of fighters that Tyson was especially good against.
I have no doubt Tyson could make CW. Guys who are that small who can succeed at HW today with greater difficulty don't go HW today. In the 80s they would go HW. Whether Tyson is capable isn't really the issue. Hes not getting the oppurtunity to try it. I'm not a guy who puts modern super heavyweights on a pedestal. To me the big problem with modern superheavyweights is not the guys themselves but the frequency with which a Tyson would have to fight them. While other small HWs with great P4P feats only had to fight those kinda guys a small percentage of the time.
Exactly the point I made. Could Tyson beat these guys? Yeah, I think so. Could he fight every fight, giving up 30-50lb in slugfest after slugfest, and be as successful as he had been? Hell no. Physics are a real thing. If you want to give up weight and beat the other guy you have to be smart and elusive, not fight in a phonebooth.
The thing with Tyson that gets lost in translation is that dominance isn't truly dominance if you need it to succeed. The early round knockouts aren't a reflection of how much better he was then his opponents.
A shot Tucker ? False equivalence. He was done even against Lewis and still went 12. Imagine comparing an old ass Pulev and fringe Wallin to prime Tucker . Pulev wasn't even as good as tucker in his prime. Wallin couldn't outbox an ancient Chisora who was laying on the Fckin ropes. Wallin is worse than Lou Savarese, and virtually nobody gives Tyson credit for wiping him out in a round. This is just tomfoolery right here. Tucker latteral movement eclipse anyone aj has ever fought bar Usyk Spinks washed Cooney, so this doesn't say anything. Tysons resume: Holmes: 39 (still beat Mercer afterwards to prove he was still worldclass) Spinks: 31 Berbick: 32 Smith: 33 Thomas: 29 Tucker: 28 Tubbs: 30 Bruno and Ruddock: 27 Golota: 32 Ajs resume: Klitschko (41 and retired after) Takam: 36 Parker: 26 Povetkin: 39 Pulev: 39 Helanius: 40 Ngannou: 37 Dubois: 27(loss) Ruiz: 27 (loss) Stop lying to everyone. The fact so many add wallin to fill it up shows his overrated his record is. Ruddock was 6'3, 235, wasn't mentally weak and cautious unlike a certain someone and hit like a Mac truck. Aj never beat a prime puncher in his whole career. Ruddock could win Tucker would beat aj, I am confident in that. Straight punches would get slipped, Wilder can't throw in combinations, has shitty footwork and sucks going backwards. Stop lying to yourself. Wilder would die horribly
Tucker barely beat McCall and everybody knows McCall can't box. JFC even Orlin Norris turned Tucker inside out. AJ would whoop them both. Nice cherrypicking. Ruddock never faced anybody the size of AJ with reflexes as sharp as AJ. He'd eat knuckle sandwiches all night. No you are not. Wilder would time him and land the nuke.
