Not only did he get KO´d, his head bounced off the canvas several times too. And he took a good beating prior to the KO. Fortunately he is still young, and can recover from this. But he has to take a long break from boxing, and and any contact to his head. Dude should only do cardio for the next 12 months.
This sport is brutal. The KO will have a permanent, deleterious effect on his durability, and he'll be much more likely to be sparked again. Is it really worth it?
Because he got KO´d? Lots of guys have gotten KO´d. Sure, the memory loss is concerning, but we have examples of people making full recoveries in similar situations. Just look at Tim Bradley - not only did he have memory loss, he slurred his words for a significant amount of time following the Provodnikov fight. He made a full recovery continued his career. Sasaki is just 23, he will likely recover fully from this. Manny Pacquiao fully recovered from the Marquez KO loss. He has to quit if he is unable to recover, and suffers any lingering effects from this fight.
That was a bad KO, the head bouncing on the canvas didn’t help. Time will tell on how he recovers thankfully he’s young
Remains to be seen. The memory loss was reported right after the fight by his gyms president. Sasaki was also conscious and communicating as he was stretched out of the ring and as he was transported to the hospital. And reportedly the immediate CT scans showed no issues. I think it would be pretty scary if he did not regain any of the memories. Hopefully we get some updates on him soon.
It's hard for me to envision Sasaki making a full recovery from that without any lingering effects. For his own sake Sasaki should really consider retiring from the sport for good after a terrible KO like that. It's not worth risking your livelihood if you lose that much memory in the ring. Not to mention having a non-existent defense where he'll just put himself even more at risk of a serious head injury again. I hope the Japanese boxing commission can convince him to hang them up especially after the death of Kazuki Anaguchi and Ginjiro Shigeoka suffering a career ending injury.
Bradley won the fight and had huge paydays ahead. Sasaki left on stretcher and will never even be top ten material.
That... thats not the point. I mentioned Bradley because he showed genuinely bad symptoms after a fight. He self admittedly slurred his speech for months after the fight, but seemingly made a full recovery. It had nothing to do with career prospects.
Oh, no. This could totally be it for Sasaki, I am just arguing that it´s possible for him to recover. Hopefully the JBC takes a very hard look at him, and I pray that they don't let him fight anytime soon.
Spot on , I used to go days with no memory through undiagnosed concussions and it does you no favours later on in life , I'm really happy the my son & grandson have shown zero interest in Rugby , Boxing etc , youngsters these days are mostly not cut out for taking such punishment anyway . Best of luck Jin .
