@Seamus try again or Gulag, you are not a source you are older than me but not old enough to be around during the Great Depression.
On paper Walcott is the better fighter and his tricky boxing skills would be a bad style match up for Tua. But Walcott's chin isn't exactly granite he's been stopped numerous times and Tua has the power to stop Walcott at anytime in the fight. I'll go with Walcott by decision but it wouldn't be a fight I'd bet on because Tua is definitely a live underdog.
There were approx. 7 million US males aged 18-26 in 1940. Over the course of the war 1 million US males would be killed or wounded. That is significant. In the US certainly. We had the GI Bill which offered free college, work training, help with first homes, all of which draw away from the pool of those who might be desperate enough to rely on boxing to pay the bills.
I agree that it's significant (assuming that most or all of the wounded would have been rendered unfit for boxing.) Do you have a link to where the stats came from? If we have the 18-26 year old stats from the 1950 census, and remove however many were wounded in WW2, I'm curious where that puts the total # of remaining 18-26 year olds compared to prior times in American history. Like, say, the 1930s or 1920s. Yes. Kind of like how the welfare states would eventually devour whatever European talent might have existed.
Walcott would make Tua look like an absolute amateur if not a fool, but if like in Round 13 in Philadelphia in 1952 he gives Tua an opening …
You don't know this we have a poster from the 1400s, a Napoleonic War general and someone who banged Cleopatra. Nothing surprises me anymore.
I am not trolling, also Tua is most assuredly not a bad contender If Boxing was Chess that might actually matter. Many dumbasses make it in boxing, this is a sport after all. Tua is too big and too physical for Walcott, he is genuinely physically stronger than any pre steroid era boxer, this is on top of being explosive early, having decent technique and having a good engine and godly chin.
And basically no skill, all these advantages you’re describing he had over as the same guy who lost badly to a juiced up 160lber like Byrd… you put too much stock into PED’s they’re something but not enough to make Tua beat someone like JJW, Toney used steroids right to train manically round after round - Tua seemingly used them to?
Tua had skill lmao wtf? And Walcott isnt gonna be able to get his gameplan going if he cant get Tua to respect him. Byrd was 220 and built dense when he fought Tua, and extremely skilled too. whatever, agree to disagree i guess. I still dont think pre steroid era fighters should be compared to the literal pinnacle of the steroid era
Are you under the impression that Tua will walk through Walcott’s punches? If Louis could not catch up to Walcott the first time why are we willingly going to believe butterball will? Tua’s idea of cutting off the ring was putting his gloves up lol compared to other contenders he was just “a guy” that people have mythologised like Williams was before him… Steroids aren’t in boxing terms quite as magic as you think.
I know far more than you about what sort of significant differences PEDs make but okay, I guess I should just throw away my knowledge of endocrinology to pick a dude who was stalked and kod by a man who was 185lbs and half blind but a man who's 225, has a good engine and is explosive can't do it Not sure why you think a past it Louis who's notable weakness was footwork not being able to catch up to Walcott is a reason why such a freak like Tua cant. Are we really gonna sit here and pretend like Walcott is gonna get Tua to back up when he would march forward against Ike Ibeabuchi. Nevermind the fact that Tua's neck is bigger than Walcotts thigh. Walcott is great for a natural fighter, but it is an entirely different sport once drugs become involved. People who sit around and do nothing on JUST 600MG of TESTOSTERONE make gains equivalent to a natural who has a structured and strict routine. This is on top of the HGH, peptides and EPO that the athletes of the 90s were doubtless on. How do you think a freak like Tua throws that many punches? They are not the same species. If we are going to compare him to someone, at least let it be someone his size. Walcott would have a good fight against someone like Beterbiev or Bivol.
I find it funny that you and a lot of people think Louis’s “weakness” was footwork which is big dumb… I will say that (rudely so) because I believe nearly anyone who “knows boxing” will agree and if you don’t… well you’re a smart guy (probably, seem like it imo) but in boxing terms Blackburn probably knew JUST a teeny bit more then you do, despite you being an expert on endocrinology... I have a question - Errol Spence vs Ray Robinson… ES is probably like 158lbs on fight night and has all the PED’s, PED’s make the difference don’t they? Errol “Different breed” Spence vs “Natty” Robinson… who do you think wins? Robi is about 10-20lbs lighter (not sure how much ES cuts before a fight) I’d be interested to hear your answer, it’s a new sport with all these drugs so I expect to hear why ES would win.
