The Mandela 1983 Effect perhaps? :D

You might want to review that fight.

At fights end, Roberto’s corner told him “You’re gonna need bigger points next time”. ;)

I watched it yesterday and scored it 97-93 Ali. I don't understand the fuss around this fight. Clear win by then Cassius Clay. If I had to put it in the old school scoring by rounds, it would be 6-3-1. The best I could give Jones is 4 rounds, which is still a win for Ali. I see no argument for the draw, let alone Jones' win.

You're spot on,Pugguy. Carl Williams-Holmes was another one.

I believe we're missing some cards:

    • AP: 5-4-1 Jones
    • UPI: 6-3-1 Clay
    • Long Beach Press-Telegram: 7-1-2 Clay
    • Oakland Tribune: 5-4-1 Jones
    • AP poll of 15 writers at ringside: 7 for Clay, 5 for Jones and 3 even
    • UPI poll of 25 writers at ringside: 13 for Jones, 10 for Clay and 2 even

I was reading a contemporaneous account of the Benitez-Leonard fight and how Benitez made Leonard miss like none of his previous opponents could. I didn't think that fight was particularly close. The point is the writer expected Ray to beat another great fighter and to do it easily.

Perhaps a lot of people were rooting for Doug Jones since he was a humble honest guy, while Cassius Clay was a loud-mouthed egotistical braggart.

People wanting Jones to win might explain the scorecards for Jones.
