Between 2019 and 2021 he had four stoppages but he hasn't had one KO in the last 4 years. Did age catching up sap his power?
Why risk getting KO'd when you can cruise to a wide victory against mediocre opponents? He always has the judges on his side and fights guys who would be unforgivable get KO'd by.
He's older and slower which affects his explosive power and his cumulative KO work rate. Also, he moved up to 168. These guys are bigger and harder to put on the canvas.
He’s fighting guys bigger than him. They are more durable and hit back harder than guys smaller than him. Bud is closer to his size, and that size doesn’t usually see the 12th.
It does though? He's honestly never been much of a KO guy. Getting a mental image of Angulo being held by Tony Weeks and Angulo standing there and just turns and looks at him like wtf
But then he also KO´d Baldomir with ease. But yea, KO´s were never his specialty. He simply does not have that snap in his punches, but he does put a lot of weight into them, and thats why he occasionally scores the KO - even against sturdy opponents. Canelo has not had a T/KO since 2021, but he has knocked down 4 of the 7 guys he has faced since. But as @Fogger said: Canelo is slowing down, and is fighting bigger guys now.
He actually did, before the Bivol fight. And I am 100% convinced thats why his stamina looked so bad on that night. He then immediately stopped and reverted back to his old diet, and said something about it being too difficult due to his lifestyle. I imagine he meant boxing. David Haye went vegan too, and then his body completely gave up on him.
That joke has been done to death now, I actually find it annoying now. Cant talk about Canelo without someone making the joke. Happens every time - which is kinda funny on it´s own, I guess. I was kinda of a vegan by accident, and for a long time. I ate mainly carbs, and rarely ate meat. I did consume some milk products, but in small quantities. People always told me I looked super pale, and I was close to being anemic. Then I switched my diet to mainly meat and milk products - immediate change in quality of life! I was an avid runner back then and saw the results very quickly: Ran 8km distances with an average speed of slightly below 10km/h. In a couple of months I was up to over 11km/h on average. I could also workout more often, and I never got leg cramps or stomach cramps during exercises. Also gained some muscle mass without trying. Veganism sucks, don't do it!
Old age and he is not on his natural weight classes. He is a welterweight on the basis and on the limits a Middleweight not a natural Super Middleweight specially the current Super Middleweight who are very tall and massive physically.
He just cruises now when he has established control instead of pushing for the stoppage. He still drops and hurts everyone. I think the power is still there but the mentally isn’t. Maybe it’s age related or maybe he’s just comfortable now. Once he’s in control that’s good enough for him.
He couldn't stop Mung, the same Mung who was one punch sparked by a guy with a hideous KO 19% He couldn't stop glass jaw Berlangy He couldn't get an inactive 154lb Jermello out of there who hadn't fought in 16 months. Granted, like Crawford, Jermello was virtually the same size as Clenelo but the later still couldn't get him out of there He couldn't get a badly compromised Juan Ryder out of there who was fighting with 2 broken nostrils from round 2 onward A 40 y/o shot bloated GGG was never in any danger of getting stopped. Granted GGG has an iron chin but he was a shell of his former self Scull was coming off a scandalous robbery win over Shishkin who hurt Scull Can you imagine any version of GGG, Beterbiev or Twink going four years without a stoppage win even if they were fighting top competition, let alone cherrypicking low risk opponents and binmen like Clenelo has been since Bivol harvested his testicles?
