I don't know Burley knocked out Archie Moore, if I am not mistaken.

Interesting matchups - not ones I’d considered. I don’t remember Chavez-Trinidad being discussed. Was that before Chavez lost to Randall?

The realization Ray would've felt when he flicked his jab and Burley just about teleported to his left side... God why this did not happen?!

It was being talked about during the Grand Slam Of Boxing Telecast when Trinidad fought camacho and Chavez ultimately went on to lose against Randall.

Jeff Chandler vs Lupe Pintor, undisputed bantamweight championship, 1982

    Why didn’t it happen?
    WBC vs WBA/promoter politics!!!!!!!!

    Who would have won?
I favored Pintor for a couple of years before changing to Chandler. I believe any and all fights between these two would have been great fights with virtually nothing in them. Chandler is the better outside fighter, Pintor the better inside fighter. Both are good to superb at any distance tho.

What impact would it have had?
If they fought a high level trilogy both would have a lot more support as ATG's. If one guy somehow won handsomely he'd be an ATG in more eyes. Both were well above the rest in quite a decent division, to be frank. I truly believe both are better fighters than they are presently perceived, in here. Chandler was one of the best all round fighters going.

It didn't help that Chandler was one of these guys that suddenly fell off a cliff. In no way, shape, or form, was the bout against Sandoval even vaguely representative of the outstanding fighter that he was. He'd been done for coke and weed a couple of years before and there were stories getting around. Unfortunately (or fortunately if he'd aged almost overnight? Aaron Pryor anyone?) he suffered a detached retina and never fought again.

Lupe Pintor showed what a fantastic fighter he was when moving up against Gomez in one of the greatest fights, ever. He was pretty done after that but somehow beat Juan Meza years later for the Junior Featherweight strap. I myself consider these guys lower rung greats and am sticking to it

Love it, JT! I’d done my own write up of this same fight but didn’t want to post it as I was waiting to see what people posted first.

Plus your write up is better!

It was a rather narrow window when they were in the same division.Ray sure didn't go looking for Burley.

Great one Mac. Pedroza and Sanchez virtually mirrors Chandler/Pintor. Basically the same time, the same reason for not fighting, and IMO they'd be as close as the Chandler - Pintor fights. Sanchez is cemented as a bonafide ATG but Pedroza beating him or even going down the wire against him would have garnered him some serious cred. It's high praise that this forum has been very aware of Pedroza's talents as long as i can remember. Not many get slept on here.
