Not sure if his boxing record, but I'd like to suggest Ronnie Russell. Not quite self defence, but he did take on an armed kidnapper who was in the process of abducting Princess Anne. The Queen thanked him personally as a mother, gave him a medal and paid his mortgage off for him.

Morris East, Philippino jnr welter of the 90s, levelled a gang in quick time who tried to mug him.

Oscar Bonavena broke the jaw of a man who was threatening Bonavena by sitting with his own wife whom Oscar wanted to grope and molest. Oscar put him in his place. What a man.

Larry Holmes drop-kicking Trevor Berbick whilst leaping from the top of a car is an all-timer for me.

Working in Law enforcement for thirty yrs, I certainly have a few stories to tell. Especially starting in the Corrections side. I'll say When old Inmates tell young inmates" That's one you don't want to cross", means you've earned their respect, because they've SEEN what you're capable of . And my proudest achievement is no fellow Deputy has ever been hurt in any situation I was involved in my career.
Also, it helped immensely when convicts knew me from the streets , and my background , it usually stopped a situation before it became physical.
I'm sure a man like Bob Foster who was in Law Enforcement also , had the same respect.
Probably a hell of a lot more than I did.

I wish I could find the video I saw. An older man, formerly a decent middleweight, is accosted by three young men. He lays out all three in a matter of seconds. This forum identified who he was and pulled up his boxrec.

I also once saw a video of an amateur MMA fighter at work at a convenience store when someone tried to rob it. Didn't go too well for the robber. Dude leaped over the counter, got him in a lock, held him until the cops showed up.

Plenty of champion boxers got their first taste of pugilism in street fights, which kind of fits the bill. Terence Crawford famously beat up his fellow neighbourhood kids in Omaha because of his mother paying them if they could beat Bud. China's first ever world champion in the pros - Chaozhong Xiong - learnt how to box in Chinese coal-mines and had no amateur career at all. Sunny Edwards apparently has a history of getting into street fights.
