Which fighters were great at setting up uppercuts without being countered or defensively compromised? Mike Tyson comes to mind. Slipping to his right, using a right hook to the body and then throwing a huge right uppercut while slipping into a southpaw stance. Who else?
Even on the less than ideal old films Johnson’s uppercut looks brilliant. Perfectly disguised, laser fast and requiring next to no room or shift in his feet to launch it with full leverage.
Juan Manuel Marquez Alexis Arguello: not only to the head, but more so to the body. He so often threw it in the middle of a combo, and it set up shots to the head.
Probably more of an underrated pick but Prince Charles Williams had some nasty uppercuts, Aaron Davis too.
Saddler ate shots when he threw uppercut sometimes, but it's mostly smothered/has less steam because of his grappling techniques,I guess Saddler enters in. Maybe Viruet, Buchanan and De Jesus were able to get a few shots in when Duran was about to throw an upper, but it's the same case as Saddler (plus his insane workrate saved him in those fights)
