If he put on 20 lbs, could he carry his power all the way up to heavyweight?

I think so. He wouldn't go from McClellan at 160 to Tua at 220, but he'd hit hard enough to get the respect of your average sized heavyweight imo.

My favourite take about McClellan is that he could stop Deontay Wilder in one round.

There was talk about his stamina going back to his days at the Kronk. Dennis Andries mentioned it in his prediction for Gerald vs Benn. (Like everyone else he tipped McClellan early.) How much of that was down to boiling his frame down to 160 who knows. I personally find McClellan one of the more fascinating what-ifs in boxing history. If he hadn't apparently crashed the weight vs Benn? If he'd had an elite coach for that fight? If the fight had been anywhere but England? If the referee hadn't acted like a WWE heel in the opening round to help Benn survive? The valid questions about the non-existent post-fight drug test for Benn. G-Man is just a really tragic figure.

Wasn’t he about 180-188lbs in the ring?

He was. I was wondering if he could have bulked up to 205 lbs, maybe Frazier size. The extra 20 lbs would not have slowed his hand speed down while giving him a lot more power on his punches.

Oh it's not something I truly believe would happen. The explanation would be that Stewart would tell him he needs to take Wilder out as quick as possible, and Wilder doesn't have the jab, defence or chin to survive the first round.

But I do think Wilder KOs him, it'd just be really funny for him to get stopped by a middleweight.

I am only speculating but i think he meant if Mclellan being on drugs could have contributed to his head injuries. Not sure. I haven't heard of this before.

GMac had severe headaches from the Jackson fight just like Ike did from the Tua fight.

We don’t know how hard he could “really” hit he’d have to have been extremely weakened by the cut… Benn was hammering the back of his head, jaw and whatever he could find when he was sleep walking and wasn’t so much as phasing him but giving him shaken baby syndrome he was a naturally very big guy. I hear the rumour a lot that he had headaches after the JJ fights… if you’re that dehydrated and you get hit by Jackson… I don’t see why his power couldn’t carry? A big LHW’s power and 200-230lbs power doesn’t seem that vast, Eddie Mustafa had Snipes running, Toney stopped some HW’s, Billy Conn did too, Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore… Gerald was probably a bigger guy then Moore when he wasn’t drained to high heaven.

It was said that he was 198 for the second Jackson fight.

When you look at Gerald he doesn’t look much smaller than Joe Louis… just “flat” from making the weight, his punches certainly had the HW effect on his significantly smaller opponents.

Look at his fight with Gilbert Baptiste. Anybody's punching power seems magnified when they are hitting a guy several weight classes smaller.

LOL - lord, that is visually striking it reminds of Oscar De La Hoya early on being a famous puncher… look at how broad he was, that’s a junior middleweight on a holocaust diet, modern weight cutting super stars ruin the sport.
