The problem with George for Joe was never the actual style.
It was that Foreman's physicals were just far beyond what Joe could handle.
Foreman had the power, the chin, the reach to just obliderate Joe.
Joe did not have Ron Lyle's power ,so he was never gonna put George away. He didn't have the chin to take the hits like Ali did. And he didn't throw punches in bunches, it was 1 at a time, and that wasn't gonna get it done. Also he laked the speed and the footwork of Young and Ali.

He just lacked the physical gifts for it

Swag is one of the most knowledgeable posters here imho, but he doesn’t have this one right. Joe Frazier on the backfoot is no longer Joe Frazier .

If Frazier had two-fisted power like Marciano or Liston, and a bit harder punch, he would win.

However, the fact is that Frazier was not a hard puncher and did not possess a strong right hand, which is the most effective weapon against big George, and it was not the prime FOTC Frazier who beat Ali.

It was a good fight to demonstrate why Toney would beat 70s Foreman, an uncharacteristic Frazier had 76 Foreman breathing heavy and missing big with pretty minimal movement - I agree that FOTC Frazier consciously moving, instead of letting himself get overwhelmed by being too aggressive may make GF dead tired enough to KO.

I understand the logic to a degree but you leave out Frazier was losing every round. To win he’d have to come forward and trade and no one ever heat Foreman career one that way.

    Agreed.

To make Joe competitive versus Foreman we would need to change so much his physical characteristics and fighting style that it wouldn't be Joe anymore, but a totally different fighter.
In that case it would be just more practical to go with "IF we replace Frazier for Ali in the 2nd Foreman fight..."

If we give FOTC Frazier Marciano's power with two fisted punch including right hand and uppercut, there is no question that he will beat George Foreman or any fighter that existed.

I once read that Frazier's bob and weave style reduced the impact of punches to glancing punches, not totally avoiding them, but even Big George's glancing punches could rock a fighter.

No 5'11 heavyweight with short arms is going to come forward throwing hooks with George Foreman and win.

This … FOTC level Frazier certainly would have given a better account of himself in Kingston but the end result was going to be the same 99% of the time.

Well Frazier FOTC version with better two fisted punching power will beat Foreman, I can bet on that.
