I related this one in another thread recently, but it’s worth repeating. Ray Arcel worked the corners of 14 Joe Louis victims, including many of the Bum of the Month Club guys. I guess they’d go to Stillman’s to train and Ray was always available as the cornerman of choice. As Arcel related it, about the fourth time he showed up in a corner opposite the Brown Bomber, when they went to center ring for instructions Joe noticed him and did a quick double-take and smiled. “You back again?” Arcel said that cracked him up.
