Could Buster Douglas have gone the distance with a prime Foreman?

Foreman had a more powerful jab but Douglas's was faster and longer, and he could throw it on the move. Whether or not you give Douglas a chance of lasting the distance, it's really not hard at all to imagine him outjabbing Foreman imo.

Good point, though I still doubt that he would outjab him. Who did that in reality? Only Ali and Ali had possibly the best jab ever at HW.

Ali fought a masterclass v Williams, Douglas overcommitted with his jab often and got floored because of this by Mike.

    Tokyo Douglas? Sure.

    Regular Douglas? Probably not.

Honestly on his A game Douglas probably beats Foreman… I mean you only need to be be as good a boxer as Jimmy Young and Lyle to either win or come very close.

Not really the point, fighters on the Douglas tier are very capable of beating George, you don’t need a high “ATG” ceiling of skill to do it - Lyle was so, so very basic and took him to the edge in the fight of his life. Douglas is bigger, a solid boxer with a hard jab and good legs - good pick to have a shot at winning against GF.

Lyle fought with a rusty George, slugged in a way Douglas never could replicate and lasted 4 rounds. People say Young schooled him but he had to run and clinch the whole night against the most timid version of George and nearly got flattened in the 7th round.

Douglas had defensive flaws, not the best chin and didn’t do well against pressure. This isn’t the 5’10 Tyson he could jab at range and bully up close, Foreman immediately puts him on the backfoot and eventually catches him with a left hook or an uppercut.

Young did school him wtf? that was a one sided fight with a scary moment for JY in round 7… otherwise prime GF was styled on lol to summarise this post “if my aunt had balls…” Douglas would not need to slug ha ha a little movement by an out of character shot Frazier in the 2nd fight had GF gasping for air / struggling lol BD would have no issues staying away and sticking his jab in his face. Man BD had a HARD jab like GF wouldn’t have felt since Liston “pop” “pop” “pop” if that Argentine LHW could survive till late BD would have little to no trouble making it to the finish line - GF has such scant head movement he’d just be a fish in the barrel for Douglas who’d be the longer, taller, heavier and faster fighter with good power of his own (Ask McCall) it’s hard to choose the stationary, slow fisted plodder who wasn’t a capable counter puncher… a fighter who could barely get rid of a tiny South American fighter? That guy over the fella who beat a prime M Tyson at his best?
