I suspect DMT meant "overly," but your point is well taken. I'm glad you took the time to explain the distinction. You are literally very correct. But ... had Joe had a more effective right hand, he undoubtedly would have been even better. I think I read somewhere that there was a physical reason why Joe couldn't use his right more. Do you know if this was the case? I just watched Ali-Frazier 3 for the first time ever (I just had never gotten around to it. I was in law school at the time of the fight and thus was otherwise occupied). Watching it just reinforced in my mind what a great FIGHTER Joe was. Nobody I've ever seen was willing to walk into a firestorm like he did. It was a hard fight for me to watch.
Overtly vs Overly? I see. Expanding on the question of semantics, may I say that Max Baer was covertly reliant on the left jab?
I believe Frazier had some kind of childhood injury from falling off a tree or something. His family couldn't afford treatment so his hand remained an issue and he wasn't able to fully straighten it. However, i have read somewhere that it was his left he couldn't fully straighten and in other places, i have read it was his right hand that he couldn't straighten. Frazier was right handed and its very odd for a power puncher to primarily have power in one hand only. His right to the body was strong but i am wondering why his right just didn't have the same snap in it.
