Jose Luis Castillo is on another planet compared to Zepeda. Castillo could actually cut off the ring, had beautiful skills on the inside, and could get into range without eating half as many punches as Zepeda does. I like Zepeda, I think he's a good guy with an exciting style, but he's too basic and too one-dimensional to beat Shakur, especially when he has the type of style Shakur flourishes against.
Im really hoping that Zepeda is good enough to find Stevenson often enough to force him into a fight. I got a feeling this will bring the best out in Stevenson and he will win back some of the fans he has lost recently. Im not a fan of either so dont really care who wins just as long as its a good fight.
Still not sure where you've got the idea in your head that Zepeda can't cut the ring off. His pressure is literally suffocating. It's not that Farmer was having a ton of success evading his punches, because he wasn't, he couldn't get away from him. He just toughed it out and fought fire with fire, unsuccessfully more often than not.
Yes but Floyd is on another planet compared to Shakur. I think Oscar is implying that this will be a poor mans Mayweather Castillo.
Forget about all this talk of Shakur standing his ground and fighting. In case people forgot, he was timid for the first 6 rounds against that electrician in his last fight. He only started to sit down on punches once he was convinced his opponent was a non threat. This will look pretty much the same as the Santos fight. I also expect Zepeda's famous volume to shrink drastically.
He closes distance well because he ha fast feet but he usually walks in straight lines. His attack is quite linear and he doesn't throw hooks to cut off exits which is a pretty important part of cutting off the ring. Zepeda doesn't hold centre ring either when he's trying to get into range, he always steps in with the jab so gets himself out of position pretty often and is easy to turn and pivot around. Farmer wasn't really trying to move too much, he held his feet more and focused on catching Zepeda coming in, countering him mid-combination, and turning him when he could. Maxi Hughes did have movement be a large part of his game-plan though and was largely able to roam the ring pretty much with impunity. Zepeda also drops his right hand when closing range, which is a bit of a problem if you're a pressure fighter, especially when you don't have quick reflexes like Zepeda. Zepeda does have some of the parts of cutting off the ring, he sometimes L-steps quite effectively and has moved laterally more frequently in recent fights but still rushes and chases and can't punch moving across. Shakur will keep turning Zepeda, force him to reach with the jab, and will counter him coming in. Zepeda is world class and probably will win a world title, but it won't be on Saturday night.
Shakur took nearly half an hour to put a dent in an electrician; it'll be interesting to see how he handles Zepada's constant pressure once he realizes his power is doing nothing. I still think he will win on points though.
Stevenson isn't aligned with any major promoter. He is in good terms with Hearn and Turki, but not necessary in some sort of signed deal with them. His style isn't exactly fan friendly, and judges haven't been swayed by it. The Santos fight was close on the scorecards and against that Artem fella one card was fairly close. He should be the favorite, but the betting odds aren't great. With Zepeda being with Oscar and Stevenson's unwillingness to engage could influence the judges' scores. I think Shakur has the same problem like Pernell Whittaker once had - he could give fights away.
Yeah unfortunately I think that Shakur will win on points he will stick to his safety first running style.
All hardcore boxing fans should be triggered by anyone who calls Ray Robinson a bum. Amazing that there are grown men that actually support this clown.
Wtf does that have to do with his performance and win on Saturday? You hate him so you want others to hate him as well.
