What am I missing No significant wins at light heavyweight No significant wins at heavyweight other than Holyfield Got knocked out by old Foreman Was probably protected pre title shot What am I missing
The gap between the top of the top and even the next tier down is pretty large and there aren't that many at the very top, once they are picked there is what's left
100% ko rate at light heavy and won the heavyweight title moving up from light heavy, only the third fighter in history to ever do that.
I find it strange, given ALL we know about Boxing, corruption, opportunity, backers, promoters, media hype (often paid for) fight fixing and manipulation in this Racket Ridden sport / BUSINESS... some people can still be so single minded, 'hard' or in some cases niave even, that sooooo many great fighters can be written off by people. it's confusing to listen to sometimes, especially when some such stances, at best are often 'contradictory' in defence and worst just outright wrong a lot of the times. personally I think dozen & dozens of great deserving fighters will never recieve that little extra accolade for their contributing excellence & great careers, filling this Business with finesse, excitement, thrills and pleasure. Funny Business and fan & followers alike.
Holyfield, Steward, Jirov, Botha, Cooper ain't a bad run especially since Holyfield and Cooper fights are so damn entertaining. He set the stage for the Foreman bout as well, so the (in)famous part is covered.
I can see perfectly valid arguments why he shouldn’t be in there. Does it bother me that he is ? Not really. He retired with a pretty good record. Won an alpha strap at light heavy then lineage at heavy. Of the four men who beat him, 3 were world beaters and two were hall of famers. His resume wasn’t stellar but the HOF is loaded with guys who are less deserving.
If you think Michael Moorer doesn't belong in the HOF they should just close down theres no point. They're going to run out of people to induct in a few years if Michael Moorer isn't a HOFer.
His loss against Foreman was one of the most iconic fights ever but not sure if Moorer deserves a HOF spot but he was a very good fighter still.
Yes it is. You're being way too picky. The Holyfield that beat Moorer was the best Holyfield of his career by a country mile.
