There some dumb assumption that every heavyweight champ gets in regardless. He had a decent resume, Botha, Schultz, a still somewhat relevant Alex Stewart, along with the dregs he beat at LHW.... He should have been put in the Hall of Decent.
It's easy to avoid losses when you duck the best. Moorer would easily have 20 plus losses had he faced Tyson, Bowe, Lewis, Witherspoon etc
Every HW “lineal” champ is in. I don’t agree with it but that is how it is. That’s why I don’t see Wilder getting in. No non lineal HW champ is in with exception of Ken Norton from the modern era.
Hart and Carnera aren't in and they should be. Wilder has 10 official title defenses. People thinking a Wilder or AJ isn't getting in the HOF are deeply delusional about the HOFs admission standards. They just elected Vinny Paz. This was the original HOF but Clarence Henry got into that HOF. Never fought for a title.
Let me answer it… basically the HOF is a sham and always has been, it’s a big nothing and on a long enough timeline basically anyone connected to someone already in that’s well known will get slotted for a place… a HOF should have finite spots and people should be taken out as more credible specimen wash up on the shores if number 100 is say Moorer and we’ve got Usyk off with his head.
I stand corrected. Then yes I agree Moorer should not be in. My own list would be even stricter I may not even have Bowe in as well as some others. But Moorer shouldn’t be in. He has ver few note worthy wins with exception of Holyfield. Which was a bad showing by Holyfield and still a razor close fight.
I stand corrected. What I should have said is no non lineal HW champ is in the modern hall. And that’s probably why Moorer got in. But his resume is poor
That’s a very murky topic. Many consider Vitali lineal after the Sanders bout. If I remember correctly it was technically for the vacant (Lewis) WBC belt and the vacant Ring magazine belt. Sanders was rated 3 by the Ring at the time, which I believe suffices as requirement to establish a new lineage. If the number 1 fights the number 2 or 3 contender. Some don’t consider it because Chris Byrd was rated number 2, but for instance Wlad became Lineal when beating Chagaev the number 3 rated contender for the vacant Ring title.
The modern category for heavyweights in the HOF are Max Schmeling Lineal Joe Louis Lineal Ezzard Charles Lineal Jersey Joe Walcott Lineal Rocky Marciano Lineal Floyd Patterson Lineal Sonny Liston Lineal Ali Lineal Joe Frazier Lineal George Foreman Lineal Ken Norton ** Not Lineal Larry Holmes Lineal Michael Spinks Lineal Mike Tyson Lineal Holyfield Lineal Bowe Lineal Michael Moorer Lineal Lewis Lineal Vitali K Murky claim Wlad K Lineal So out of the 20 listed here 18 are Lineal 1 is not and one has a disputed claim. On a side note I think this criteria greatly hurts Wilder’s chance of being inducted. To place him into the Hall the standard would be saying he’s the best non lineal HW of the modern era. That’s hardly the case. The indication would also be that his career would be better than the few lineals not admitted, which is kind of a stretch as well, say Buster Douglas with a win of prime Tyson. Not to mention Trevor Berbick and Oliver Mccall.
Moorer has Big George Foreman to thank. His iconic historical loss is the pivot point for him getting in. The fight will live tall in history forever.
The Ring doesn't have a monopoly on crowning the lineal champs. Yes, he was rated number 3 by them, but other outlets didn't even have Sanders in their Top 5. Byrd was a clear number 2 at the time and he held a victory over Vitali, that's why they ultimately called older Klitschko's coronation as a farce that didn't stick. Wlad was crowned based on cleaning out almost every Top 5 contender in the 2005-08 period, with the Chagaev fight being kind of a final fight of the tournament. Wlad and Chagaev were clearly number 1 and number 2 guys in that period. Sanders was Vitali's only second Top 10 win in his career. Saying that, Vitali did beat a guy who was rated number 3 by The Ring, who was a WBO title holder before the fight and held a victory over Wlad, who himself held a victory over Vitali's conqueror Byrd. So you can argue he was in possesion of 1 belt and had a lineage of other 2 belts - WBO (clear one) & IBF (muddied one). It was somewhat of a claim, a weak one, but still.
