Interesting match up,, I kinda think Oscar would be there for Cooney to hit but he's durable enough to drag Cooney into the back end of the fight and drown him. Undecided as of now

Cooney on points, he’s more refined, but Bonavena has a chance late on if he can rock a tiring Cooney, he has better stamina and is durable.

Bonavena was only stopped once. Granted it was by a left hook and Cooney has a better left hook than Ali.

But i think Ringo is a bit too rugged. Unless Cooney catches him with a big left hook that Ringo doesn't see, Oscar would be able to get inside and wear Cooney down.

Bonavena by late stoppage for me but i am not confident. A Cooney ko wouldn't surprise me.

Oscar Bonavena had to be one of the most frustrating human beings on the planet to fight because he was so awkward and unpredictable. Cooney would be a very live wire in this matchup but something in my gut ... and it may be the Pad Thai I had for lunch ... tells me that Ringo gets his hand raised at the end, that Cooney simply would get discombobulated trying to deal with him.

I like Cooney and say he stops him but it's the Cooney through Young ... when active and healthy

Oscar takes the best Cooney throws and manages to get a split decision win.

Bonavena was stopped on account of several sucker punches… he was hurt by Ali but finished by illegal shots.

The fight essentially ended with the left hook. That was my point.

Bonavena is impressive really, doesn’t look like a fighter who should stick around but he did a guy who just “somehow” beat people? he did better against Ali then Quarry, Foreman, Liston, Ellis and Patterson all GOOD fighters some of those guys fought an older Ali, some younger but the point stands he did a lot more then he was supposed to against a version of Ali who was about to fight Frazier An Ali who’d been in training since 1969 at a minimum. @Pat M you often say if Bonavena was trained in Philly the results of the Frazier fights would be reversed, I agree, I don’t think Frazier was the talent that OB was.

I think it’s likely he could’ve recovered, not quite the feat people say when basically it’s a heavyweight champion king hitting someone after they’ve been KD’d badly.
