Okolie showed up at 262 lbs. Sirenko at 256 lbs. What is it with these heavyweights? Seriously? Why so overweight?
Don't forget that Usyk is 38. Those lean muscles are getting harder to maintain and he's slowly getting into dad bod territory.
I think Usyk’s camp knows exactly how his legs have been aging and has been adding a bit of muscle to let him sit down on his punches more
I don't think Usyk has ever looked stand out in regards to his body TBH. Don't get me wrong he never looks out of shape but if you had Usyk in a gym with similar sized guys he wouldn't stand out at all. He's more like Ali looks athletic but nothing stand out.
He is 6'3 and 227 lbs. If he trimmed down to 200, he would look like a greek god. Lots of men in their 40's can maintain good muscle tone with good nutrition and weights. Dad bods are not inevitable.
Maybe he felt better as a heavyweight in the 2nd Fury fight, where he weighed 226. So, he might have decided to be in same weight against Dubois.
Carrying a some fat gives you advantage in such endurance sports, because the body uses it as an energy source when the glucose in your muscles are depleted. And, when the fat is burned, it produces water, thus the body gets hydrated.
Not happy with him coming in heavier. I know that he was wearing jogging bottoms, that crucifix and necklace but he's probably about 225 which is heavier than he was for the rematch against Belly because he weighed in fully clothed wearing tracksuit bottoms, T-shirt, woolly hat, trainers, and said crucifix and necklace for that one. I checked and he wasn't wearing his trainers on the scales today either so he's definitely heavier. He was very fast, agile, and sharp in the first Dubois fight and that backhand down the pipe was really quick and snappy and his combos were more fluid and snappy too but he was slower in the Belly rematch and he was pushing his combos more and he wasn't catching Belly with that backhand upstairs near as much as he did Dubois and as much as he did in Belly 1. He looks in good shape and I'm hoping the extra weight is all on his legs and he's as fast as he was for the first fight but I have my doubts and 221 is pretty much his ideal HW weight
Then why were all the heavyweights in the 15 round era relatively trim and usually below 220 lbs? They only got fat relatively recently. Most could not endure 15 rounds anymore. Also most long distance runners don't have love handles but are likewise quite trim and lean.
With Okolie at least, he is a natural fat boy who had to work super hard and "starve" himself to reach Cruiserweight. The thing is with natural fat boys though is that they feel weak when they don't eat enough, so the weight could actually be good for him.
