Would Ingo have been the hardest puncher Liston fought?

That’s been explained too. Now tell me this. If Johansson hit as hard or harder than Liston as Floyd claims, why then did he have to floor Patterson SEVEN times over three rounds to finish him ? Why couldn’t he repeat that performance in the rematches ? Why couldn’t Floyd last as long in TWO nights with Liston as he did with Johansson in one ?

    The Bayonne Bomber.

    A bleeding, powerful hitter.

    He dropped Ali no less.

Not sure why you’re so bemused Swag.

Why then Ingo beats healthy Machen in 1st round by KO while Liston fought injured Machen, used something on his gloves, went the distance and didn't want to rematch Machen ?

Was there a rematch talked about ? And the answer is that Machen fought Liston like he was actually fighting a big puncher and didn’t trade with him

Okay, so Machen’s right hand was injured and, sans any tell tale eye discomfort, he was also blinded by a solution on Liston’s glove….

……an allegation he inexplicably chose not to reveal until 4 years after the “fact”….

…..the timing of the belated BIG reveal happening to coincide with Ali’s accidental blinding in Miami in 64’. Sounds solid. Got it.

Against Liston, I bet they also gave Machen the corner with the sun shining directly into it to further disadvantage “Fast” Eddie…probably was given some funny tasting water by a mole in his camp too.

Talk about being royally screwed.

Based on a certain claim made by one of Liston’s biographers, if Liston had shown his “Toonder” to Ingo, the poor Swede might’ve suffered an instant and debilitating inferiority complex. :coleman:

I don't think Machen gave Liston the chance to hit him with his best shot. He was on the move. Ingo suprised him. Eddie really didn't want to find out about Sonny's power.

He did gave him chance but Sonny just could not since Machen was good at neutralizing Sonny's power.

Machen tought of Sonny same way as Ezzard Charles when Ezz had a sparring with Sonmy.

I know that it hurts that your hero couldn't stop Machen while someone did, I can deal woth that but at least be honest.

I have seen both fights and from what I have seen Ingo punches were just scary compared to Liston-Machen fight.

He didn't trade with Ingo too but it doesn't matter since Ingo found him with his right hand.

Btw Ingo fought healthy Machen without needing to cheat with something on his gloves and still KOed him in the first, if Machen was afraid of Liston's so called "power" why Liston cheated and didn't want the rematch with Machen?

"In my time, I've faced some of the hardest hitters in the game, but nobody hit harder than Ingo. His punch was like a sledgehammer. Liston, though, he came close—he had power, no doubt, but Ingo was the one who made you feel like you could get knocked out just by standing too close."

I wil ltry to find the source since I found this last year when I was arguing with you.

Again, when was there a rematch on the table ? Liston fought Marty Marshall three times and Cleveland Williams twice. He wasn’t a guy who ran from rematches
