How the hell is an old former cruiserweight making so many of the best current heavyweights look bad? Is Usyk that great, or does this current generation simply suck? A little bit of both?

It's not like Usyk has blinding Handspeed or devastating 1 punch KO power. He's cagey and can be quick, but he isn't a slippery defensive wizard whose nearly impossible to tag either, he's gotten hit plenty by several opponents. Usyk is giving up a lot in height, reach, and/or weight to nearly every single HW opponent...so what gives? They're all using modern equipment, modern nutrients and diets, modern state of the art strength and conditioning coaches, thousands of hours of footage and tons of books from the past to study...there's no excuse imo for Fury, Joshua, Dubois, Chisora, etc getting their asses kicked.

I think it's actually a good era. Not the 70s or 90s, but very good otherwise.

Think about this...Usyk is the great name, but, realistically, Fury, Joshua, Parker and maybe even Dubois could finish with significant legacies of their own.

As for Usyk being a cruiser, we just did a thread in the classics where we came up with a comprehensive list of guys who came up from a lower weight to make some claim the heavyweight championship.

    Bob Fitzsimmons
Sam Langford (I consider the negro title a split championship)
    Marvin Hart
Jack Twin Sullivan (for victory over Burns one before Burn's title win)
Mike Schreck (For victory over Hart)
    Tommy Burns
    Jack Johnson
    Jack Dempsey
    Gene Tunney
Young Stribling (Briefly recognized by NBA)
    Max Schmeling
    Jim Braddock
    Jim Bivins (Duration Champion)
    Ezzard Charles
    Joe Walcott
Archie Moore (Nevada state world championship)
    Floyd Patterson
    Michael Spinks
    Evander Holyfield
    Michael Moorer
    Johnny Ruiz
    Chris Byrd
    Roy Jones
JamesToney (if you consider the NC)
    David Haye
    Oleksandr Usyk

Usyk is just too good for these modern HWs point blank.

This is a decent era and definitely compares to any other era.

If you have followed HW boxing over the year then every era had its weaknesses. An era or a champion is often underrated whilst its still current, and it takes 5-10 years after its ended for a fair assessment to be made.

If look at the Usyk era at HW which is from 2020 to date, its been strong. And Usyk's performances in the ring and technical ability speaks for itself.

He has fought AJ, Fury and Dubois all twice. AJ and Fury have been the elite from around 2017-2019 until now.

He came along at the right time when AJ and Fury were on the decline.

its a crap era as far as level of competition. todays hw fighters are just not as good. old men, morbidly obese men, and even guys who arent boxerss have a chance at beating this crop.

Its simply that those who believe SHWs are too big to lose, are wrong.

The people who felt this were asking where's the next CW sized heavy who is going to dominate, well Usyk answered that call.

Without him it would have been Fury and AJ dominating and they'd still be under the belief they're too big to lose.

If only there was another era of HWs where a CW was one of the best fighters in the division.

If Usyk lost to Fury and Dubois, people would say "this heavyweight era is the best ever, Fury/Dubois is the best heavyweight ever".

Now that Usyk destroyed all those Western fighters, people are saying "this era is not that good", just to belittle Usyk's success.

I think he really is that good. However, I also think we are reaching the end of a stealth golden era, where a large cast of flawed dangerous fighters of every conceivable style made the division an entertaining and dangerous place to be. Usyk has now spent years beating up on the three guys who negotiated that relatively strong, or at least interesting, division. Sadly the only guys who I think might have presented him a real stylistic problem - Joyce and Zhang - will never win their way to a shot at him.

Joshua Fury Whyte Wilder all over hyped and all with there short comings. Parker and Kabayel lead the new gen of fighters (Parker mixed it with old gen whilst younger) and are the two most deserving to face Usyk at this moment. Usyk beats Parker in a good fight but I honestly believe at this point Kabayel is all wrong for Usyk and could be the fighter to beat him should Usyk continue fighting. For me I’d like Usyk to retire but have a feeling he will drop a belt to fight for it again to become three time Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, there is also,of course the huge amounts of money involved for further fights, hopefully Usyk does not fight on too long and loses to a fighter he would have beaten when younger .

People won’t accept it but like it or not, Usyk is the most skilled fighter we have ever seen in CW and HW. He really is that good.

Explain how 13 loss Derek Chisora managed to give Usyk a tougher go than any of these other heavyweights if the era was so "great"
