That was from Page’s perspective. And of course he would have said that in his position. He wanted his shot.

At the time, Holmes was trying to get a more lucrative fight with Coetzee.

    I can't see it..
I would not have Fury or Joshua or Dubois among top historical greats. Looking at records and the fights, Fury would rank around Riddick Bowe level at best, and Joshua/Dubois closer to Bruce Seldon if I'm honest. And I have no nostalgia for the 1990s.
Usyk is great, he's incredible but I can't see him as greatest. He might not be in the top 2 heavyweights from Ukraine honestly.

Olympic gold medalist, World Amateur gold medalist, European gold medalist

    Won the WSB at SHW

Undefeated since 2009, it should be since 2008 because his last 2 amateur losses were robberies IMO

Undisputed CW champion in 15 fights

Undisputed HW champion in 22 fights

Three time undisputed champion at 2 different weights in 24 fights

Won and unified all his medals in major championships on the road and won all his world titles in his opponent's backyards, sans one which was still on the road

Didn't even turn pro until he was 3 months away from turning 27 and didn't even win his first world title at HW until he was 4 months away from turning 35

Has fought a murderer's row of KO artists and legit punchers all in their backyards, many way bigger than him and obviously power is magnified when you're facing opponents who are much or way bigger than you, including a bunch of the hardest punchers in the sport, but has never been dropped, stopped, knocked out, or even really hurt. Has never been dropped or knocked out by a headshot in 374 fights amateur and pro how many other fighters can anyone think of throughout boxing history who this has never happened to?

Ali was dropped heavily and saved from a KO loss by the bell by a 22lb lighter Bivol sized HW

Lennox Lewis was one punch sparked out/one punch iced in the midst of his prime by fighters he was much or bigger than who Usyk would've boxed the ears of and never lost to

Holyfield was dropped and nearly KO'd by a journeyman

    The list is endless

And he was contractually bound to rematch AJ and Belly and there was a lot of controversy and many trying to discredit him and accusing him of cheating after the first Dubois fight claiming he should've lost via KO and would never have been able to beat the count had the ref deemed it a legal blow and Usyk wanted to silence all the doubters and set the record straight

So what did he do? The 6th, very soon to be 5th oldest HW champion of all time, the 3rd oldest unified very soon to be 2nd oldest, the 2nd oldest soon to be the oldest undisputed HW of all time, not only agreed to rematch Dubois but at 38.5 y/o he travelled to the backyard or the much bigger, much younger, much more powerful savage punching KO 95% #1 ranked HW in the world and knocked them out in spectacular fashion. Who even does that

Dubois was coming off three impressive stoppage wins going into the Usyk rematch, one against the #3 ranked HW in the world, the other against the #5 ranked HW in the world, and two of them iron-jawed unbeaten opponents who have the best chins in the division IMO, and one a spectacular one punch KO of former unified HW champion AJ

Usyk has fought 5 opponents at HW in 8 fights at the weight and it's not like he fought 20 cans or low level guys before he fought for the title. He fought 1, then he fought Chisora to help build up more interest for the AJ fight and them he fought for the title against AJ. Holyfield had six fights at HW before he fought for the title

but all the fighters he's fought are HWs by the old standard and many of the HWs the HW greats from back then were way or much smaller than the CWs Usyk has fought. Many of the CWs Usyk has fought are bigger or the same size as the HWs from back then

Belly, AJ and Dubois were all ranked #1, #2 or maybe #3 once by The Ring when Usyk fought them sans Dubois the first time. He fought them all when they were either #1 or his #1 challenger.

Usyk has won all his fights via clean boxing and pure skill and often as the B-side.

No deck-stacking, refusing to travel, ducking (no, he hasn't ducked anyone).

No trying to cripple or weaken opponents at the negotiating table. Remember even some of the greats had to try and even things up or weaken opponents with catchweights and rehydration clauses when facing ones bigger than them.

No fouling, billy goat butting, punching low, elbowing, trying to catch opponents with cheap or sneaky shots after they've stumbled or slipped or been pushed out of position.

No holding like an octopus, running like a cheetah, ducking his head below waist level to avoid getting hit. His offence and defence are predicated on pure, clean honourable and legal boxing skill and it takes much more actual genuine skill to avoid getting hit when you do it that way

How many fighters throughout boxing history does all the above apply to, whether it be doing all these things he never does or not doing the things he does do and forged a career doing?

He's a unicorn appreciate him and his greatness while we are still blessed to have his holy presence gracing the sport.

yes, those achievements separate him from the very good and solidify him as a great. i dont think anyone is arguing that point. but his achievements arent the greatest at hw, and what i see technically isnt the best ive seen, nor what i see athletically the best ive seen in the greats. so calling him the goat hw, by any measure i can think of, sounds ridiculous.

The man is amazing. And we absolutely need to all appreciate him whilst he’s still here.

However, you don’t need to down play the achievements of Evander, Ali and Lennox, whilst also hyping Dubois at the same time.

I’ve read it my good man.

I read most of your posts.

    The man’s a genius.

But it still disrespects them and doesn’t allow for context.

It’s hard to make direct comparisons like that for various reasons.

You’ve also massively overhyped Dubois and his run.

Where would you rank him specifically as a HW?

How many fights do you think he’s got left?

They would be in a much higher regard if it weren't for Usyk coming and sweeping them all up.

are we forgetting Bowe was getting his ass beat by Golata twice and only "won" those because of the DQ's

Why does Usyk fight the same guys he already beat?
    2x AJ
    2x Fury
    2x Dubois
How about fighting Parker or Kabayel
