Joe Frazier vs Usyk

Usyk would ping him at range and not let Frazier get work off up close by tying him up since he’s around 16-20lbs heavier.

Usyk has great judgment of distance, and combined with the fact he’s a southpaw, Frazier wouldn’t have much success with that left hook, not to mention that he’d be feinting, changing the speed of his lead hand and making it very hard to time.

He’d throw the left to the body and time Frazier with the left up top as Frazier comes up, he’d land uppercuts at range and not let Frazier close enough, and when he does get close, Usyk could simply clinch, he’s naturally bigger and stronger than Ali, so he could simply clinch him since he’s stronger than Frazier, unlike Ali who was a similar weight.

Usyk wins comfortably on points or late stoppage after busting Frazier up.

 

I think it potentially goes the distance. But I’m leaning towards Frazier by a decision. Joe wasn’t colossally big and strong like some of the men Usyk has faced. But he was much faster. A master at slipping the jab which would be highly instrumental here. Incredible workrate, hand speed and upper body movement. Capable of going fifteen rounds. One of the best left hooks and inside fighting games ever. It would be tough though. Usyk is incredibly well conditioned and has the size advantage along with a southpaw stance and a high work rate himself. Throws punches from all angles and has solid defense and an iron chin. This would be a very very hard fight for both men.

 

Usyk is a top fighter, and ATG great no doubt but Frazier is the worst stylistic match-up for Uysk personally.

This guy was a true master of pressure fighting. He wouldn't be stupid enough to try and box Usyk. Those who have tried to swarm Usyk have given him the toughest fight for me, Frazier was miles ahead of Chisora.

Frazier close points win.

 

Wish I could have actually seen this, this fight would be amazing.

 

Joe might be my first choice in terms of sending someone in to defeat Usyk.

1) You don't stop Joe, you've got trouble - all night
2) What Ali gave Joe in '71 is more than what Usyk can dish out
3) Usyk rarely uses the uppercut
4) He does he risks the hook
5) Joe will grin when he sees him ***** about borderline shots

It's a tough night but Joe has the antidote.

 

The Usyk who destroyed Dubois wrecks Frazier tbh. Hits way too hard and developed a really good counter game to deal with pressure fighters. Think he just counters him all night till he knocks him out around round 5 or 6. Frazier never had a great chin and I think Usyk has more then enough power to knock him out.

 

Lets not write history here, Usyk was never the type of guy with the power to KO somebody like Frazier. He’s similar to Ali when it comes to power.

 

Usyk is a southpaw so If Usyk uses his left uppercut it would be opposite JF's hook. JF liked to throw the hook from too far away against taller, mobile fighters, and when he did, he often left his weight on his front foot. In that case when JF missed and his weight was still on his front foot, he would be the one on the receiving end of Usyk's right hook or right uppercut. I'd bet on Usyk if this fight could happen and feel confident.

I think Usyk could knockout JF too.

 

Uysk on points seems the safe bet for me.

 

Ali wasn't knocking out SHWs

 

This is true. What you'd have is Joe targetting that lead right shoulder, as well as looking to slip the hook over the jab. People forget how quick that punch was.

A core reason in the Frazier argument is the sheer willingness to keep pressing when others would 'have their turn' and then get pinged. Joe just kept pressing, regardless, targetting anywhere between the hip and the head. Chisora had the right idea but was knackered after two rounds. Joe's different gravy. Chisora was much sloppier with his punches.

 

Neither does Usyk barring Dubois who was more tired than hurt.
