Was just reading that Mickey rourke visited Carlos monzon in prison. They were filimg them sparring in the gym an Carlos Left him unconscious.Has anyone ever seen this?
O'Rourke had this harebrained idea that he would make a movie about Monzon, and he, O'Rourke, and Irishman, would portray Monzon....you know how these dumbass actors are, like Danny Bonaduce, whom I actually like somewhat, putting on the gloves with Sugar Ray Leonard, and I've seen it on YouTube, and getting put on his ass, after Leonard hit him with about three shots to the ribs. Hell, Monzon could have killed Mickey if he wanted too.
It's funny they let him out on weekends to party and visit his family. That shows you how much his country adored him
Mickey Rourke is an excellent actor and he would win all of his fights so long as his foes follow the script.
Danny Bonaduce body slams some ***** actor on some awards program and then figures he can put on the gloves and nag a sweet old, retired Ray Leonard to spar with him. He ended up in agony on the floor clutching his ribs. Leonard didn't really want to do it. These guys like Bonaduce and O'Rourke have wannbe problems. Delusions of grandeur or something.
Recently the film star Mickey Rourke, while on location in Argentina, met Monzon and took a crew with him to film the occasion for posterity. Rourke's reputation in the entertainment business is that of a hard man, but either he believed his own publicity, or being a tough guy in showbiz wasn't enough for him. He won some novice professional fights, and appeared to consider this a common bond with Monzon. He felt moved to swap boxing stories with the former champion - and eventually persuaded him to take part in a sparring session in the prison gym. Filmed, of course. It was a brief, extremely nasty, and embarrassing experience for the actor. A single blow left him unconscious on his back. The film crew sold the stills. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_19950110/ai_n9629413
You should read the Bukowski book Hollywood where he basically completely takes the **** out of Rourke and director Barbet Schroeder in a thinly fictionalised account of the filming...
Yup. Chuck was no fan. And I remember when this Monzon-Rourke thing happened. Was it really filmed? Rourke was known to work out in gyms around LA... when he didn't have a needle in his arm.
