It's not glass but it's not as good as people might think. It's his defence that's protecting him mostly. If he fought like Froch he'd have been KO'd by now. Let's be real, Beterbiev hurt him badly and Beterbiev is a LHW. He's not a cruiser (was smaller than Usyk in that fight) and he's not a HW. So that tells us Usyk can be hurt bad at HW. But he's just so much better that people can't hit him enough.
Fury landed the same uppercut on Whyte, and it was lights out. Usyk on the other hand bit down on his mouthguard and endured the pain.
I completely forgot about Korobov claiming to have dropped Usyk. I remember he stopped him on the mercy or outclassed rule where the fight is automatically stopped if there's a large points margin between the 2 fighters Korobov, who is one of the best amateurs I've ever seen and whose CV is insane, beat a lot excellent amateurs and excellent amateurs/future excellent pros and future pro world champions and he stopped many of them on that rule too Among many others his scalps include Usyk - W-RSCO Kovalev Bakhtiyar Artayev Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov Badou Jack - W-RSCO and PTS Danny Jacobs - W-RSCO Sergiy Derevyanchenko TKO Alfonso Blanco Emilio Correa Ismayl Sillah - W-RSCO Fedor Chudinov - W-RSCO Dmitry Chudinov Carlos Gongora - W-RSCO Yordanis Despaigne Darren Sutherland - W-RSCO Daniel Geale Mohamed Hikal Jarrod Fletcher - W-RSCO Here's an example of Korobov stopping Sillah on the W-RSCO rule This content is protected Korobov said he thinks he dropped him but I could find nothing to suggest it was a heavy KD, assuming it's even true or it wasn't a balance issue KD or something that is Either way, it was when Usyk was 19, had only been boxing 4 years and Korobov was 23 and had been boxing for a decade and it was obviously down at MW in 2006 which is roughly 35lbs to 60lbs in recent years lighter than what Uysk has weighed since late 2008, and he campaigned at LHW (81kgs) 10 months after losing to Korobov in 2006 in between that and moving up to HW. Usyk hasn't just been a completely different physical specimen for the last 16 years he's a virtually a different species altogether "I think I dropped him off his feet. The referee scored a knockdown. I think that was the end of the round - the second, if I'm not wrong. "The third round was stopped by the points, because I was many points ahead of him." -- Matt Korobov
Korobov going bust is one of the saddest recent examples of amateurs failing in the pro ranks. The reasons were plentiful, but the end result is what it is.
Usyk has an iron jaw and he is a great defensive fighter Both are so obviously true but ever so weirdly people don't want to give him the credit for having or being either of those Yes he has brilliant defence albeit we don't give him credit for that But he also has been cracked flush on the chin many times by these savage punchers, giants, savage punching giants and legit bangers he's fought and they cannot put a dent in him. The shots just bounce off his iron jaw Dubois cracked him with a bunch of flush right hands in both fights and a left hook in the first one and nothing happened He even landed a huge right hand a second before the first KD which snapped Usyk's head back. What did Usyk do? He ate it up and immediately fired back with counters and dropped Dubois There was a video with better angle than this one where you see it snap his head back more but I can't find it now This content is protected From a different angle At 0:14 huge flush right hand from Dubois This content is protected
Yeah, I was a huge fan of him in both the amateurs and pros but he left his best years and form in the ams and was cursed with absolute rotten luck throughout his pro career He was beating Andy Lee soundly prior to walking onto Lee's pet right hook which was a serious weapon and he still didn't go down during the follow up assault when Lee went ham on him Then he got broken out for four years and couldn't get a break for love nor money, having to fight low level comp throughout Then when he finally did get a break he got robbed in back to back fights vs Jermallo and Aleem And then he lost his last 2 fights due to his body breaking down on him suffering 2 different serious injuries early in fights, 2 rounds and 4 rounds IIRC, he was winning and would've won IMO had he not got injured. Yes the CEJ was only 2 rounds but Korobov was hitting CEJ at will with his backhand and CEJ had no defence whatsoever to it
This is what happens when some random casual boxing fan thinks they can analyze chins!!! Don't they realize that it takes literally years of practice and training to become a Chin Checker???
