Daniel Dubois vs 2015 Luis Ortiz

Now if we're talking prime 1915 Ortiz then i would favour him.

Would be a tougher fight for Dubois than people think but I think Dubois would still overpower Ortiz especially if he fights the way he did against AJ. But, I can see Ortiz hurting and knocking Dubois down at somepoint.

Dubois is a bit suspect against southpaws at times but Ortiz just doesn't have the chin to cope with Dubois's power.

It could go either way but I favour Ortiz. He's smarter and far more composed/mentally tough than Joshua, would win the pointfighting barring KD's and would likely walk Dubois onto a big counter. I don't think Dubois handles skills, southpaw stance or big punches that well.

Dubois is dangerous offensively but he's a two-time quitter via jabs at age 27, dumb as a rock and even Lerena could have easily finished him with more gumption.

Then surely one has to favour Ortiz? I don't see much evidence that Dubois can get up to win against a quality opponent, let alone a skilled big punching undefeated top 5 ranked southpaw with a lot of composure and killer instinct.

Joyce put Dubois down with a jab and Dubois quit in 10.

Usyk put Dubois down with a jab after scoring a KD in the previous round and Dubois quit in 9.

3rd rate cruiser Lerena had Dubois down three times in round 1 with an equilibrium shot but failed to follow up.

 

You do realise its pretty common in boxing for anyone to still win after getting knocked down? I can list countless examples here.

AJ V Wlad, Ruiz V AJ, Fury V Wilder, Kabayel V Zhang, Parker V Zhang, just to name here. Ortiz isn't exactly a great finisher as his gas-tank is pretty average, and even though it was only Lerena who is a gatekeeper at best, Dubois did well to win after being knocked down.

 

Bad style matchup for Dubois. Ortiz bludgeons him with counter back hand lefts and uppercuts.

 

Whatever is on the other channel wins.

 

Dubois has beaten a legit contender and a couple of solid gatekeepers, and lost to a couple of legit contenders... And he's not quite prime yet.

Ortiz never beat any contenders, only fairly middling gatekeepers, and lost to a fringe contender holding a belt hostage.

Pretty much 50/50 imo, maybe a slight edge for DDD.

As overrated as Ortiz can sometimes be, I do think he would have been a legitimate handful for anybody back then. Skilled southpaw with solid power and durability.

 

Getting off the floor to win is an ability some have much more than others. On two of the three occasions Dubois has gone down he's been stopped either that round or one round later, on jabs no less. On the other occasion it was a 3rd rate cruiser letting him off the hook after having him on the brink of defeat in round 1. If Dubois went down against Ortiz he'd be in big, big trouble.

Ortiz was a power puncher with skills, a top 5 heavyweight for years and he had a lot of killer instinct. He emptied the fuselage on Wilder in the last 45 seconds of the 7th round and Wilder was wobbling badly, given an extra 20 seconds to recover by A-side corruption and only recovered by the 9th. After Ortiz discombobulated Martin he battered him brutally and stopped him in the same round. In both of these fights Ortiz had been knocked down and got up to turn the tide and he was arguably past his best in Wilder 1, let alone vs Martin. Jennings would also attest that Ortiz is a good finisher.

 

Bump the fact Dubois was winning this poll 20-9 shows he got vastly overrated.

Ortiz would have a great chance of beating Dubois and is alot more skillful.

 

In fairness, Ortiz was always vastly overrated for someone with a gatekeepers resume.

Dubois will probably, if anything, get underrated for a while on here after his loss - it's the normal way of things.
