The thread header says it all, talk about some boxers whose physical strength was not a major talking point in the game or discussions about them but who had really good strength or better strength than you would think. The poster child for this in my mind is Ali as he was actually a lot stronger than Foreman in their fight in Zaire. I also want to discuss the flipside of boxers who were weaker than people think an example for me would be Mike Tyson as he actually got pushed around a fair bit.

Yeah Floyd was damn near bullying Hatton in their fight, he was actually strong as hell especially for a guy at the lower weights, another lower weight guy would be Inoue

In regards to this is believe physical strength can make up for a lack of punching power, which is why you cant always pick the pressure fighter against the mover because the mover may actually be stronger than the pressure guy

I remember Calzaghe vs Lacy. Jeff had the physique, but Joe was way stronger than him and had his way.

Pernell Whitaker was much more physically strong than people thought considering how well he was able to outfight Chavez on the inside. He was a damn good infighter in general yet most people don’t talk about it enough.

People often irrationally underrated defensive fighters strength and infighting skills because they prefer fighting at distance, Floyd was much the same. Shakur is actually pretty good at infighting and strong at lightweight

Anthony Joshua is someone that looks physically strong and imposing but has shown time after time that he could be ragdolled around.

The bodybuilder stuff from fury was obviously completely nonsense but lies have a grain of truth to them and joshua got pushed a lot more than you would think for a guy who looks like he was craved out of marble.

I go back to Roberto Duran vs. Davey Moore for the Jr. Middle title. Duran (still haunted by seeming, yes, weak in his "No mas" exit vs. Leonard), pushing around the bigger, until-then highly successful Moore. Duran emerged seeming strong in that bout and then in his fight vs. Hagler, surprising everyone by going the distance in a competitive fight. Of course later he got cold-cocked by Hearns, but, as Hagler noted, by then he was a shell of the man who faced Moore and Hagler.

As for Ali vs. Foreman, mental strength played arguably a comparable role to physical. "Ali bomaye!" -- among other things in Zaire -- f@#ed with the less-experienced Foreman's head, and Ali capitalized.
