We have seen Usyk handle and dominate high level boxers, punchers and boxer-punchers. He's a 3 time Undisputed Champion. His record is nearly impossible to critique.

But if I was to examine his record and look for a weak spot, it would be this, no real high level pressure fighters on the CV.

When he will retires, I will always be left to wonder just how Usyk would handle a high level and relentless come forward guy like a prime Tyson, Marciano or Frazier.

Gassiev is not a high volume pressure fighter. He fights nothing like Joe Frazier.

You never specified volume puncher in your original post. And it’s pretty clear that this thread is a shrewd attempt to shore up support for Usyk-Kabayel (a fight I’m on board for, mind you). Gassiev was a quality pressure fighter who was fairly well-proven against his cruiser contemporaries and has bricks for fists. Usyk made him look silly and thoroughly dominated him. If you want to see Usyk against a guy who fights like Frazier, just watch him against Chisora, whose whole style is pretty much just a Joe Frazier cosplay.

I would have liked to have saw how he dealt with someone who is actually faster than him. He absolutely feasts on boxers that can't keep up with his twitchiness so it'd be interesting to see him not have the advantage in speed.

Chisora is not anywhere close to high level. Gassiev is a puncher.

Tbf there is not really any around, Chisora is probably the best available. Joyce a couple years ago was come forward with huge volume, but Usyk had his number already.

Maybe Kabayel could fit the mold if we squinted.

Honestly I thought you were going to say that he's only beaten English men at heavyweight lol.

The only pressure fighters at HW are Joyce, Chisora and Kabayel.

Hes beaten 2 out of 3 so far.

    Kabayel answers your questions though.

When Usyk retires it will be Dubois, Parker, Kabayel and Joshua going for the championship and if Usyk has beaten all of them there's no more that can be asked of him.

Does Floyd Pattersons speed give Usyk some problems.

He had some good CW wins that made him a legit opponent then but unlike Uysk, Haye, Holyfield - but he has looked pretty poor at HW relative to at CW especially losing to Wallin, not sure why though.

Kabayel is probably the best pressure/swarmer in the HWs, I'd say better than Chisora yeah - but I just don't think he has the footwork to deal with Usyk.

I'd love to have seen a match up between Usyk and someone like Frazier/Tyson, someone small but powerful enough with actual quality footwork.

Was thinking more along the lines of somebody like prime Iron Mike or Joe Frazier. We've seen Usyk fight guys like Fury, Briedis, AJ, Dubois, Gassiev, etc. All of them quality opponents. But none really presenting the type of challenges that a primed and ready pressure fighter brings.

I'm looking for somebody to step into the ring with Usyk and just ****ing have it with him. Like, let's ****ing go. Somebody who just keeps coming and coming.

Gassiev threw 637 punches vs Lebedev and 608 vs Dorticos albeit he outboxed Dorticos on the backfoot

There's so much reluctance and resistance to believe, and thirst to believe, Usyk isn't as great as he is. Have you ever seen a fighter whose opponents ''got the tactics wrong'' as often as his ones did? Even when he beats them twice.

Of course it has nothing to do with him and what he's doing or allowing them to do or not do

When Floyd outboxed his opponents it was because of his superior skills, speed, defence and ring IQ but the rules seem to change when it comes to Usyk compared to every other master or slick boxing great throughout boxing history

People keep reaching for any excuse they can to try and rationalize to themselves and each other why he's been able to achieve everything he has rather than afford him the credit for doing so simply because he's an amazing fighter

He's literally won everything there is to win amateur and pro and dominated 2 divisions, and become undisputed at both, x 2 at HW, P4P#1, the greatest HW of the generation, and the greatest fighter of the generation as the B side in just 24 fights

Winning all his world titles in his opponent's backyards sans one which was on the road, never had home advantage in any fight at the world level sans maybe Dubois I, via the application of pure skill and clean boxing, with zero use of dirty tactics, zero deck-stacking rigging the deck at the negotiating table to make fights easier or much easier for himself, and he hasn't lost a fight for going on 16 years (and it should be 17 years IMO), facing all sizes and shapes and different styles

Remember ''Usyk can't box on the backfoot'' despite having been doing it all throughout his career and doing so as well and beautifully as anyone

how was that not Chisora? That’s exactly what he does every fight.

yes, you obviously want the Kabayel fight. Hey, so do I. But it’s a bit unfair to say Usyk isn’t been in there with a mean pressure fighter when he fought Chisora.

Serge, I appreciate the post, but I do not consider Gassiev to be the modern day equivalent to the pressure of Joe Frazier. Perhaps I am wrong? Would you say that Gassiev's pressure is comparable to Frazier or prime Iron Mike?
