Boxxer didn’t have anyone signed up before they got the deal with Sky either. There’ll be a tonne of boxers not on the Riyadh season circuit absolutely desperate to sign up with whoever gets a deal with Sky. And you’d assume the fighters Sky have spent the last three years hyping up like Whittaker, Azim, Simpson, Price, Riley and Caroline Dubois will be top of the list. Looks more and more like they just want Boxxer’s fighters, but without Shalom involved.
I think you’re right but I still think that Fat Mick would do a better job than Kalle. Maybe they want the misfits for PPV but it looks like their time is up.
I reckon Ben Shalom is going to quietly step away from boxing, maybe take a year out in a yoga retreat in Thailand then come back to a nice well paid job set up up by a friend or family member. If there's no news yet I'd say it's curtains for Boxxer
Yeah the reality for is he has about 3 boxers people would be interested in. No way you could give him a tv deal
Price, Jonas, Artingsall and Dubois are going to find their real worth sooner or later. Promoters will snap up Aziz Whitaker and Simpson even Big Fraze but I suppose after being told relentlessly on Sky that these boxers are strong independent women who have the skills of Sugar Ray Robinson and produce the excitement of Gatti Ward, there really shouldn’t be a problem. I suppose Kalle will be forced to take them on if he gets the gig.
If the Sauerland rumours are true I can just imagine him praying the women go and sign for Jake Paul with Netflix throwing money at them. Sky’s priority will be getting their foot back in the door with the Saudi’s, DAZN may have their £3/400 premium tier but I could still see Sky selling them as ppv’s as they know full well they will have at a conservative estimate 95% of the UK viewers.
So Shalom’s in talks with the BBC about an iPlayer deal. He’s managed to find the one broadcaster in the country with less interest in boxing than Sky.
bbc have interest but after blowing the whole budget on Fraudley years back they are aware of how they will keep pro boxing at arms reach. they are active in the ams. if anything probably the only broadcaster who dedicate time and effort to the non pros. i think the beeb would be welcome addition. the last 2 olympics and the sort of more newer more media savy younger fighters are much more aware of their place within the sport. they don't have to pull the wrestling personas or the faux arrogance that derailed prince patels career. if the bbc gets involved i could see a more grass roots, community based style of presentation. more about the gyms, more about the areas. maybe more about the arenas/venues. dunno. kinda interested in it. boxxer would be put under complete dominion though. just feel that it would be blind leading the blind.
I get a feeling Boxxer are finished .. Davies Ohara tweeted today that all Boxxers boxers are working on getting out of their contracts with Boxxer as we speak Lee Eaton of Queensbury is doing the paper work lol
Thing is, without Serrano continuing to fight (and having someone worth fighting) there's no audience. It's possible Paul might stick women's fights on his undercards but Netflix are only interested in numbers. The women's circuit has had its heyday already, such as it was.
A few of them wanted to mitigate any risk had contracts with Sky anyway, interesting to see how those will play out and how serious Sky are about staying in boxing in some capacity.
