Fight of two Jacks; Jack Johnson Vs. Jack Dempsey

For one thing, Jack Johnson liked to play around in there, and that is a bad gameplan to use with Prime Jack Dempsey, who is as serious as a hungry tiger after a playful deer. With that said, hopefully Johnson would take Dempsey seriously and try to tie him up and block some of that incoming pressure inside. I have to think that Dempsey catches up to Jack Johnson and knocks him out, but Johnson could make Dempsey look bad in the process, and even possibly score a knockdown (uppercut?) along the way. A focused Jack Johnson did not make many mistakes, but, against Jack Dempsey, it would only take one. Dempsey was not opposed to bending the rules some either, which could throw Johnson off his game. I will go with Dempsey by KO12, with the cards very close through 11 rounds.

Thank you, but no, Djanders will always win that contest, overall, but I still think Joe Louis is #1 and Muhammad Ali is #2. My Grandfather had them Muhammad Ali at #1, then Joe Louis at #2.

 

I have always liked Dempsey in this mythical matchup. Dempsey sets a torrid pace that I see Johnson struggling to keep up with. Johnson likes to stay on the back foot controlling the tempo and pace. Don't see that working here. Dempsey can also match or even surpass Johnson with his wrestling knowledge. I like Dempsey by Stoppage.

 

Johnson holds the advantage throughout most of the fight with his clinch work but eventually I think Dempsey’s gonna land something devastating inside.

 

I'm going against the grain here. Jack was a brilliant defensive fighter, not just his grappling but his gauge of range. He had a calmness that precludes him tiring and I honestly think he is more likely to drop Jack, perhaps several times, with well timed shots as Jack comes in, particularly the uppercut, and perhaps from inside 'dirty boxing'. Jack's impetuousity might well be his downfall against a man like Johnson. I think Johnson wins a surprisingly wide decision in a fight where he controls the range and the clinch.

 

Yes,he was the main man when it came to knowledge of the boxing, and a real gentleman too.
He's sorely missed.

I personally think Jack Johnson gets pretty overrated generally...I don't think he'd beat hardly any of the champions that came after him, Dempsey is no exception, I think he'd maul Johnson and get him outta there

 

One of the better fantasy SuperFights that could be made. Clash of styles and the 2 best heavyweights before Joe Louis.

Johnson would have no choice but to slug it out with Dempsey when the going gets tough. Both men have their moments but taking Johnson out of his comfort zone will prove disastrous.

Lucky #13 comes to mind in this one...

Twenty rounds is a long time to avoid getting nailed by Dempsey,but Johnson said Dempsey is basically only dangerous early ,after a few rounds he is just another fighter.Johnson would look to ride out that early storm with clinches,tying up the Mauler and frustrating him,Dempsey would probably sling a couple down south to take Johnson out of his comfort zone,but Lil Arthur was very strong and would look to close Dempsey down,tying him up and firing his uppercut in close,employing the uppercut would be risky ,Dempsey had a very fast short left hook.I tend to think Johnson would win a decision here in a mauling scrappy affair,but he would be dicing with danger all the time,one mistake and he might be on the canvas.

Sure as you're born, friend, the first two jacks happened in a cave somewhere, the first time a young lad was left alone with cave paintings of bosoms.

 

Nat Fliescher Mr Boxing and editor of Ring magazine saw them all Corbett thru Ali and he rated J Johnson as the greatest ever. Johnson was supposed to be a master defensively and quick as a cat. In his prime he was a jacked 208 and about 6 and 1/2. So they would have been close in height but Johnson on would have had 20 pounds on Dempsey. Seems Johnson would have been a little too much for Dempsey.
