    Absolutely.

I also feel, though they never will, that Tanks fanboys should take a significant chunk of the credit/blame for him following such a protected path and not achieving more than he did (potentially at least).

This is what happens when fighters get hyped up to the sky without earning it - they get to play it safe and make their millions without paying their dues to the sport...

Stop hyping fighters who haven't earned it - make them earn it and you'll have better fights to watch.
    Seems simple enough, right?

(That last bit isn't directed at poster I'm replying to, by the way!)

Dare I say it... Losing that damn zero whilst young and learning that it's FAR from the end can genuinely be a really good thing for any fighter.

This has nothing to do with fans, Tanks been pretty vocal for years about how he is just a prize fighter. He was never in it for some big legacy, he just wanted to knock people out and make as much bucks off of it as possible.

Thankfully they didn´t flat out rob Roach, and he walked away with a draw. No one can act like Tank beat him due to the official verdict being a W for him. "Oh, it was a close fight, but Tank did enough."

And Tank leaving the sport is a win for us all. He is a waste of time and his career never went anywhere. Unfortunately, he is still only 30 years of age, and will likely return to the sport eventually. But he is going to be slowing down physically, which with will catch up with him sooner due to his inactivity.

Sure, but he never fought anyone the fans wanted him to fight.

Roach moved up in weight to fight him.
Martin was a solid lighweight, cant knock that fight too much.
Garcia moved down in weight to fight him. I guess some fans wanted this fight given it´s box office success.
Luis Garcia moved up in weight to fight him.
    Romero was a nobody.
    Cruz was a nobody.
Barrios was a literal paper titlist at 140.
Santa Cruz ducked everyone at 126, won a paper title at 130 and then fought Tank, who himself was ducking everyone at 130.
Gamboa was 38, no one asked for this.
Nunez was another fight no one asked for.

    One of the best ever?!

Entertaining at times, yes... KO artist, sure...

But to be one of the "best ever" you have to, you know, fight live bodies? Surely?

In all honesty though... At least for me... It got boring long before it ended.

And even though KO's were always likely, that was kinda what made it boring - seeing half decent fighters being super protected and having mediocre opponents lined up to pad the highlight reel just doesn't sit right.

Its a similar feeling to playing a game on easy with lots of cheat codes set... It's fun for a while, but then it gets real boring real fast.

I dont see how any of this changes the fact that he is probably the most entertaining fighter at 135 rn. So many people here are fake hardcores acting like they enjoy pitter-pats just because its between champions, at the end of the day this is entertainment business, I’d take Davis absolutely flatlining a garbage man over Shakur borefest-decisioning a world champion any day of the week.

One of the best KO artists, not one of the best fighters. You can try and see how many lightweights can produce KOs like that.

I would take Shakur fighting top names like Zepeda, over Davis any day.
You are using one extreme example of a boring ass fighter to excuse Davis´ **** poor competition. I barely ever cared about a Davis fight because of the matchmaking, even if I did find his KO´s entertaining.

Funnily, I dislike Stevenson even more, but at least he fought Valdez to unify belts. Then he fought Conceicao who arguably got robbed by Valdez. And now he fought his nr 1 contender, Zepeda. It was a good fight because it was between two top names.
Why cant Davis fight top contenders or other titlists?

Tank's not even a top 5 puncher in lightweight history. Name one guy known for durability whom he stopped?

You sound like a casual, which you might be. You think Duran, or Arguello, or Rosario, or Mosley is going 12 rounds with an aged Gamboa fighting on one leg?

Davis has stopped no one of consequence. He's getting hate in this thread because he deserves it.

I don't excuse it, I just don't get the hate on him. I also wish he was more of a legacy guy but I don't see what's not to like about a lightweight that can actually put people out cold.

I don't care about his opposition, Tank is a self-admitted prize fighter and a 135 lbs guy that actually puts people out cold when he lands and I just don't see what people don't like about that. How are y'all happy that the only guy at 135 that can actually sleep people is retiring?

He brought excitement and challenge to this sport. I think he will come back, and he should.

Shakur was booed and bashed for years for being a fraud, and now they're saying "Tank is scared of Shakur".
