He's also just bad publicity for Boxing with his character as he is just an odious person in real life.

Well obviously the hate stems from the fact that he is clearly talented and exiting, but refuses to fight the meaningful fights.
Many fans resent him for it, and rightfully so.

It depends what you find entertaining...

Some of us get our entertainment from competitive bouts where the outcomes aren't (or at least shouldn't be) foregone conclusions.

Sure, Tank wasn't the full Jake Paul "wwe of boxing" style fraud... He was in the Wilder school of fight overmatched bums school of avoiding risk, getting lots of KO's and ducking anyone good like mad style of fraud.

And the fraud isn't that these guys are completely fake - it's that wild claims are made about how good they are and ridiculous levels of hype generated without taking respectable risks.

I just don't find that super enjoyable.

I'd rather competitive bouts that answer questions... KO's are entertaining when they mean something, technical dominations are entertaining, tactical engagements where neither guy can afford to overcommit are entertaining... The only thing less entertaining to me than bumfighting is putting two runners or two cuddles in together.

To be counted as one of the best at anything you have to do it against legit.

Being the best at knocking out bums is more about the "kayfabe" - it's like ranking WWE wrestlers on the basis of "achievements"... It only makes sense for as long as you refuse to acknowledge the reality that it's all fake - the narrative is there, you just have to switch off your brain and trust the hype.

He was the model for the Gervor baby on the pureed carrot jars.

Part of me feels there is a good side to Davis but coming from his background upbringing and groomed in boxing his main goal should be to escape the fate of ending up broke with 50 baby moma's and a jail sentence. He's on the teetering point right now where boxing hasn't offered up all the fortunes you'd expect for his calibre albeit he's been over managed. He should make Hay while the sun shines then retire to a ranch in a Texas somewhere with a pretty boyfriend and possibly adopt a child to live out the rest of his life

I think we all stopped reading after you said you dont care about his opposition.

As expected, just a casual. A Tank groupie, not a boxing fan.

Hanging out with his hanger on and with three kids to pay for he will be broke in no time. It will be a minute before he un-retire. He isn’t going to make a million doing anything else.

If he actually ends up retiring without even giving Roach a rematch, let alone challenging anyone of note then his entire boxing legacy has officially tanked.

What a huge disappointing career to an otherwise talented fighter.

He represents boxing in 2025, I'm not fighting cause I might lose is the mantra of todays boxers. It's why good fights can't get made.

I called it from the jump that he would never give Roach the rematch.

    The man is a coward.

    Exactly.

And it's lucky for guys like that that fans can't (and many wouldn't if they could) organise en-masse to boycott and push them into making genuinely good fights... Because they'd lose sooner rather than later and the hype would die much quicker than it actually does.

I doubt he will stay retired. But, if he does, I do not think he did enough to make the IBHOF.

Pretty surprising if he does stay retired. We've heard this talk so many times before. He'll be back once he realizes his own irrelevance.
