Undefeated and undisputed until he found :copas:, beat 3 undefeated champions to get the belts. Also took the 0 from Catterall :deal: and Ohara Davies amongst others. Beat Crawford's best prime win too.

Taylor vs Prograis in 2019 was literally the 2 top guys at 140 going at it for 12 rounds. It was a fantastic fight, and neither of them was the same after it, despite Taylor going on to win every single belt at 140. Taylor isn't as good as other undisputed champions of the 4-belt era, but any boxer who reaches that stage has completed the game, regardless of how people rate him subjectively, his resume on paper is a shoo-in for first ballot HOF.

I don't know about the HOF stuff. He's like a Jermell Charlo.

Undisputed in a weak weight class

Keith Thurman was a better fighter than Josh Taylor

Easy to say that in hindsight.

Prograis was undefeated and a respected name at that time it was considered to be the two top fighters at 140 fighting eachother.

Not to mention Taylor/Programs was a FOTY contender in one of the best technically skilled action fights of the modern era.

No one at the time was disappointed with either fighters performance infact both fighters came out with alot of praise after that fight.

The Catterall fight was an absolute robbery, dude. Not only did Catterall land more consistently but he landed cleaner as well

I've seen it said the Taylor is a known alcoholic, which someone can get away with when they are young, but late twenties, early thirties and they will start to fall to pieces.

It fits Taylor's career momentum as well, which is a shame because he was an exciting fighter for a bit there.

So he's both "very good" per your last post AND "not all that" per the thread title ? Which one of these two things you are saying that are completely at odds with each other is "the truth"?

    Undisputed in 18 fights

    Beat 5 world champions

Won all his world titles vs unbeaten champions

After beating Crawford's best win (Postol) in just his 14th fight and his first fight at the world level his next 6 opponents were undefeated, including 5 of those fights being world title fights and 4 of his opponents being world champions

In fact from Postol to Essuman his opponent's combined win/loss records were 201-3 or 203-4 including the Catterall rematch

All the world champions he fought were career 140 pounders like himself sans Teo and Vazquez

Fought quite a lot of big punchers, especially for the number of fights he had

Compare him to someone like Spence who was never undisputed

Didn't win a world title until his 22nd fight, 4 fights longer than it took Taylor to become undisputed

Beat 7 world champions but had 8 more fights than Taylor

But he only fought 2 career 147 world champions

Barely fought any punchers, especially ones his size

    Spence is better than Taylor

Keith Thurman was better than Taylor too

Taylor fought in a weak division

No way hed become undisputed in this new 140 era and obviously he wouldnt in the Terence Crawford era.

Same as the Bradley and Kahn era

    Right place right time
