Josh Taylors become underrated now. The problems with Josh Taylors career are more structual to boxing. "He was a WW who cut to 140". Well tweeners exist and the current system allows you to do that. All things considered his era 140 was fairly good. "He didn't have a long resume". Well people only care about fighting the top contenders and he did that. Officially he doesn't get credit for the Postol and Martin fights because they were for the WBC Silver title. While the Silver title isn't a major belt in this instance it should be credited as one.
...it was a unification it was a huge fight headlining a massive show. sidenote but funny and pognant. i was there when my brother bought tickets for my birthday. he knows nothing much on boxing but because i talked about chisora. he thought he was my fav fighter. anyways chisora demiloshes price and he is like "right, lets go shoreditch" and literally i said...i cant leave its prgorais-taylor. blank look from big bro. and literally random brers in the crowd like a wierd cult becoming more rediculous and funnier. "no lad, this is a unification* figth. world titles are on the line, this is what you should watch", " honestly mate, sit down you have to watch this", "you cannot leave", "who dares leave the O2 before midnight". taylor fought one of the most dangerous fighters of the era. it was unreal accomplishment. and he went on better and stronger til covid lockdown destoryed him.
exactly. brings up a problem with the 'sort of but not really' world titles. manny defended that 130 international belt against Morales 2 & 3, Barrera 2, Larios, Solis. p4p claiming run at the time. didnt fight for a world title for 3 years almost.
Not from Aberdeen though, he’s from Prestonpans, which is in Edinburgh. Lomachenko has a record of 18-3 which could arguably be 17-4 depending on how you scored the Jamaine Ortiz fight yet he sure as hell is getting into the HOF. Hell, Sixto Escobar is in the HOF with a record of 39-23-4. Maybe it’s because accomplishments matter more than a shiny record, and becoming an undisputed champion in your division in less than 20 fights is a pretty good accomplishment considering how Taylor fought quality opposition to get that accolade. The first Catterall fight isn’t the robbery of the century a lot of people like to make it out to be, it was a close fight and could have legitimately gone either way. Even their second fight was a very close affair. Beating Viktor Postol, Regis Prograis, Jose Ramirez, Ivan Baranchyk, Jack Catterall, Miguel Vasquez, Ohara Davies, and Ryan Martin is a pretty credible list of scalps, and there are plenty of HOFers with worse ledgers than that.
Regardless, what Taylor achieved in such a short of time is nothing short of remarkable. His name will be etched in history forever. Whether you like the guy or not you cant take that away from him. He earned his stripes.
Its a unique situation because at the end of 2018 the top 3 were the WBC champ, the WBC interim/Diamond champ and the WBC Silver champ. With the other 3 bodies champs being 4,5,6. And the one without an official world title ended up being the "real champ". Maybe can be a system if the Regular or Silver champ becomes a champ of another body those become title fights after the fight? Normally this isn't going to happen. The problem with the WBA Regular and Siver belts is they always exist. While an interim belt is made for a situation that demands the titles creation.
Can we all agree that the bar has been lowered to enter the IBHOF? I don't think Loma should enter. It's said "well he had an incredible amateur career" which is true but does that count? If Taylor gets in hell, bring in anyone.
The 147 division was so strong that E-Spence forged a career cleaning it out of 140 pounders or 135 Mikey, featherfists, and 140 featherfists, and somehow only managed to defend his world title (s) a whopping x 1 against a career 147 world champion during his six year reign and only fight 2 of them in total in his entire career This is embarrassing Brook KO 65% Ugas KO 37% career 140 pounder who came up Danny KO 52% career 140 pounder low KO% at 147 Mikey KO 71% blown up 135 pounder whose KO% above 135 = 0 Peterson KO 41% career 140 pounder Algieri KO 31% career 140 pounder Bundu KO 32% Van Heerden KO 36% Ocampo KO 60% even Spence admitted Ocampo had no power Lo Greco KO 47% Porter KO 47% Again, Taylor became undisputed in just 18 fights whilst only fighting unbeaten reigning world champions and contenders and all the opponents he fought at the world level had a combined record of 201-3 or 203-4 including the Catterall rematch. He might not have been a top 5 P4P great but that is very impressive for a 21 pro no matter how you swing it, especially given how steep his learning curve was
All Taylor's fights since he moving up to the world level in his 13th fight Postol 29-1 - former champ only loss to Crawford Martin 22-0 Baranchyk 19-0 - world champion Rougarou 24-0 - world champion Khongsong 16-0 JCR 26-0 - world champion Catterall 28-1 Teofimo 19-1 - former undisputed champ at 135 Catterall 26-0 Essuman 21-1 This is one of the best 21 or less fight resumes of any fighter outside of Loma He wasn't looking for any soft touches or dragging opponents up in weight He fought a 26-0 JCR in his backyard with a home ref and 3 home judges for undisputed. US fighters won't ever agree or ever have to fight a foreigner in their home country with a home ref and three home judges for one belt, let alone all four even though it's the norm for foreigners to do that over in the US Teofimo wouldn't dare fight Taylor in the UK even though Taylor was the undisputed champion and he would've been fighting for all Taylor's belts and none of his ones at 135 would've been on the line This content is protected Haney wouldn't dare fight Kambosos in Australia unless the judges were from neutral countries which of course they were in both fights, “Me and my team are doing the best to make sure that there’s fair judging, neutral judges " --Devin Haney Loma vs the 20lb heavier, near 6'' longer reach Haney in Haney's backyard US ref and 3 US judges Taylor fought Crawford's best win Postol in his 13th fight, a fighter a 27-0 Crawford with six world title fights under his belt stunk the joint out vs spending the entire 12 round duration of the fight (sans for 2 flash KDs one of which was a rabbit punch), on his bicycle against in mortal fear of getting clipped by the wind of a punch from a fighter he weighed a weight class more than who isn't even a puncher Crawford was 28-0 going into that fight, taking part in his 7th world title fight, had been the full 12 round distance x 2 and the full 10 round distance x 2, all bar one of the officials were from the US, the lone one who wasn't was from a neutral country Conversely, Taylor was 12-0, had 0 world title fights, had never fought any prime world class opponent before, had only been past 8 rounds once and never past 9 rounds, and even though it wasn't a world title fighter and Crawford vs Postol was a unified world title match up 2 of the officials were from neutral countries So in just his 13th pro fight Taylor fought Crawford's best win which is still arguably his best win in 41 fights when way greener, a fighter who Crawford fought scared against and stunk out the joint all night against
Sparring stories don't matter Unless it's E-Spence whose hype was built on sparring stories Rules for thee, but not for me
This is the most logical explanation but for some reason people want to say he lost all of it after 1 fight Wonder if people give Tim Tszyu this same luxury
