Dude was getting tributes from black news outlets back in the day for giving their guys chances. I don’t think he missed anyone in those weight classes either and ave he’d a lot of his defeats around his prime years and even after. So, no.

Excellent post, and a very instructive breakdown of Greb, his era, and his opponents, all of which I most certainly agree with, he has been my No 1 for decades, how any poster can have it otherwise is beyond me, a small caveat if I may re: your description of him as a swarmer of which he was, but there was a huge difference between him and other swarmer's ala, Armstrong, Pryor, etc, after rushing and bullying the opponent into a corner, he would land dozens and dozens of hurtful stinging punches to the entire torso of said fighter, giving no time for the fighter to launch a counter attack, or even defend himself, then, and this where he parts company with aforementioned fighters, he would be gone, like a mirage, out of distance, the opponents punches would fly through the air, Greb would be 10/12 feet away, just when the other fighter thought he was safe and could regroup, the whole exercise would be repeated, this would be the pattern round after round, Ted Moore " it was like someone had opened up the ceiling and a 100 boxing clothes were let loose " and as reported, Grebs pace would increase as the fight wore on, he is wholly unique in the annals of boxers, no one, but no one fought like him, there has been great boxers, great fighters, great box/fighters, but only 1 Greb.

Yeah but a lot of predominantly white outlets HAD TO praise Floyd, even when he was still an active fighter.

 

Mayweather could beat Greb in a fight but Mayweather is incapable of doing the things Greb did against bigger opponents. The same way Greb H2H beat various fighters who could do things at HW Greb himself was incapable of doing.

Greb has a long resume with better SOS. Mayweather has more official championship accolades but Greb has belts at MW and LHW.

A big problem for me with Greb in the "GOAT discussion" is most of his big wins being decisions. That doesn't really matter when hes being compared to Floyd.

Yes there were "newspaper decisions" in Grebs day; that's how things were done.

As far as gathering belts, most any decent boxer can grab some kind of belt. Aztec, Interim, Intercontinental etc. Only 8 belts in Grebs day and even he had to wait his term for shots at belts.

 

The thing is 1910s MW had the most belts of any division in the history of boxing. It had so many title claimants you could argue its the reason alphabet bodies exist.

 

Many of his opponents such as Walker & Rosenbloom never drew the colour line either.. great fighters.. Greb didn't give a toss.. he even offered Harry Wills out once
