Could Max Baer win the cruiserweight title today?

    Baer weighed 203 in his best performance against Schmeling, he could easily cut to the cruiserweight limit.

    A lot of ESBers like to say that Baer couldn’t pass as a sparring partner today, however he has a lot of attributes that get limited fighters pretty far; a combination of great power, cardio, an elite chin and explosiveness. Louis said that nobody took his punches like Baer, and Maxie ate Schmeling’s punches like candy.

    Would you favour him against the current lot of cruisers? How would he do historically in ten cruiserweight division?

    Yes he would have a punchers chance.

    I think he is too powerful for Zurdo and would ko him.

    I think Opetaia is too skilled and quick for Baer. But Opetaia is open to the right hand and Baer had a monstorous right hand.

    Baer was not skilled so a skilled cruiserweight should outbox him but he had such a big right hand, it would be hard to discount him vs anyone.

    My opinion too. Baer would not do so well against people that were his physical equals and better boxers than him.

    Yes, because unlike what's around as Championship caliber in today's era, he could actually fight, unlike what is around in today's era.

    I think that if Baer was in todays game, he more likely bulks up to 230, and get's stuck in at heavyweight.
