Yeah what was that? Parker looked like he was getting into the groove of it and catching Joshua and the ref calls a stop.
It was the first professional boxing match i saw, and I was stunned at the ref breaking up the fight any time Parker got close. Hometown advantage at its finest I guess.
Sounds about right. Joshua might want the fight of Parker gets elevated to WBO champ as well, so its possible it could happen.
I've never seen a referee performance like it. Breaking up clean exchanges he didn't like the look of for AJ, it was incredibly bizarre as Parker wasn't a noted power puncher going into the bout. He had some hype early in his career finishing guys early but by this stage Takam, Ruiz, Hughie and Cojanu had all taken him the distance. AJ's crew took advantage of the inexperience of Parker's corner at the time. Led by Kevin Barry who similarly did a terrible job preparing David Tua for his shot against Lennox Lewis. I had the fight even at the halfway point but I though AJ cruised over the second half of the fight to a clear decision. I haven't watch the fight back as I've never suffered from insomnia.
It's an excuse. Parker fought conservatively and didn't come to win, just like his trainer admitted. Not being allowed to fight on the inside? Laughable. I'll tell you the fighter that wasn't allowed to fight on the inside and where it could have changed the the fight, Povetkin against Wlad. Povetkin was trying to get in there and 'work' but was wrestled illegally all night and the ref was complicit. AJ would probably have KO'd Parker if he'd hung around on the inside. It's possible Parker could have done a Ruiz back then, landed a big one and made AJ buckle. That's why there's the revision as well because AJ was exposed after this and Parker fans realised if Parker had been as aggressive as Ruiz maybe something could have happened. But Ruiz almost got KO'd doing it. And Parker got smashed by Joyce who is nowhere near as good as AJ.
Parker has such an odd history. Some have him winning or drawing this fight, and the Whyte fight...others have him losing Ruiz and he lost Chisora 1 by any metric. He came up short when people thought he was going to beat Joyce, he excelled when Turkyi wanted him to lose to Wilder and Zhang. He's a former titlist, Dubois ran from him, and he has a magnificent resume, and yet there is no backing among casual fans to make the Usyk fight. Make of it what you will.
I'm sorry there's no way Parker won the Joshua fight yes it wasn't a one sided decision win for Joshua but there's absolutely 0 case for Parker winning 7 rounds. I don't know what people are seeing with those scorecards...unless you count Parkers missed jabs all night because that's all he did was throw jabs and miss consistently. As for the referee it gets overblown Parker didn't really try and take the belt from Joshua and was content with going the distance whilst not taking any risks.
