I saw it live and it was great action but like so many recent fights in Japan a potential classic was ruined by another premature stoppage. Since the Taniguchi tragedy they have been stopping fights very early in Japan specially if it is between two Japanese fighters. I hate it.
Was lucky enough to catch this one in person, one of the best fights I've ever seen live. Saito's legs were absolutely gone in the first and the ref could have easily ended the fight then. I definitely wouldn't call it an early stoppage, Watanabe was punching in slow motion in the third round and it was clear that he was finished way before the ref stepped in. Hope both guys continue to have successful careers, Watanabe is still young and his explosiveness + counters were very impressive.
