I'm not sure how many folks even watch boxing on the classic forum but I think they are both decent prospects with Torrez being much further along in his pro career but I think Edward's has far more upside.

I think Torrez is fun too watch and brings alot of excitement offensively but I'm not so sure how he will do once he reaches the top guys in the division.

Edward's to me has the size and pedigree to do more longterm but time will tell. At the end of the day, the USA amateur program is no where near as good as it once was.

Its a real shame that the USA amateur programme is nowhere near where it used to be.

Spot on with your analysis of Torrez and the state of amateur boxing in the U.S.

It's a shame considering how great it was back when Kenny Adams was involved but once he left and all of the inner city gyms closed, the program went to hell. The US still produces great fighters but unlike the Eastern European guys, they go pro early and can care less about winning medals.

With that said, I can't blame guys for not wanting to stay in the amateurs. There is crazy money to be made at the pro level and there have been so many great amateur fighters that ended up shot by the time they turned pro.

Well, you got a few replies to this thread which is more than I thought you would get. For the most part, the classic forum is just a buch of guys that jerk off to Tony Galento videos.

Do you realize George Foreman was the last American heavyweight to win a gold medal back in 1968!
Or that Andre Ward was the last American to win a gold medal back in 2004!

Ray Mercer won the heavyweight gold medal in 1988. KO 1.

I do. We haven't had a real strong heavyweight in awhile. I remember being high on Calvin Brock in 2000 but he got eliminated in the first round. Wilder won a bronze in 2008.

We had really strong teams in the 90's and early 2000's but haven't had a strong heavy in awhile.

Edwards looks like he has potential. Torres has T Rex arms. He's at the Dave Allen level.

Actually, I forgot about Terrell Biggs. He took gold in 84' and Bowe took Silver in 88' super heavyweight while Mercer won gold at Heavyweight.

Vianello is better than Dave Allen. Torrez is underrated. His workrate, power, speed, southpaw angles, he will cause top guys problems

Well I hope you are right. We need some decent US HW boxes not fat club bouncers.

I 've not been that impressed with Torrez as well, I think his style will run into trouble when he faces a puncher,,if ever.
