I'm not asking who would win a fight between them, but who do you think was better overall in their prime.

    At MW? Possibly GGG.

    P4P? Clearly Hearns.

Gennadiy was less fragile and more versatile at his best but Tommy was excellent at what he did and had the better scalps so invariably will win the poll. Gennadiy was probably better but he is also somewhat of a leper around here, he rarely gets much praise or hypothetical victories.

Hearns much better overall, and I'm not so sure he couldn't beat GGG at 160. Good fantasy fight

It's Hearns by a clear margin.

    Tommy Hearns

His height, reach, speed and power is something that has never been seen before in boxing before or since

The only things GGG has that's better is his chin and physical strength.

In a head to head fight at 160 I’d pick GGG. That said, Hearns had wins over Duran, Benitez, Hill and the draw with Leonard should have been a win for Tommy. GGG was robbed twice against Canelo, beat Jacobs, Brook, Geale, Lemieux, Murray, Dchenko, which were good but not great wins. GGG had a one of the top ten amateur records in boxing.

As much as I love Hearns and respect his overall resume and explosive offense, if we’re talking strictly middleweight, the answer is GGG.

Hearns had some great moments at 160 — that war with Roldan comes to mind — but he was never a true middleweight by frame or durability. He could be hurt at 160 as the Hagler blowout and the Roldan war showed. He wasn’t dominant there; he was dangerous, but vulnerable.

GGG, on the other hand, was a full-fledged middleweight tank. Iron chin, relentless jab, heavy hands, and an underrated boxing IQ. He ruled the division for a long stretch and was never even knocked down, much less out. His run of defenses, consistency, and ability to walk guys down without reckless abandon puts him ahead at 160.

Hearns is the better all-time fighter across weights, no question. But GGG is the better middleweight. Different levels of natural fit.

In 1984, Hearns was making a statement at 154 and is arguably the greatest Light Middleweight of all time.

In 2013, Golovkin was a 'Regular' WBA Champ and probably not even the best Middleweight in the world.

The Best Fighter was obviously Hearns.

Who has the better legacy? Hearns.

Who is more fast-twitchy, long army, snappy-punchy athletic? Hearns.

    Who would win H2H? Golovkin.

Make of that what you will.

How ? Herans was crushed by Hagler and hung on for his life vs Roldan. He was not a terribly durable fighter above 154. GGG has become insanely underrated ... not only did he have an iron chin and was heavy handed but he was very tricky in his own right ...
