That's not how retrospect works. Retrospect can't change history.

At that time you and everyone else ranked AJ number 1.

Why do you keep lying. Everyone didn't rank joshua as the best heavyweight in the world regardless of my past opinion. A large chunk of fans thought Wilder and Fury were better than him.

Joshua was already getting questioned when Wilder 1 shotted Breazeale in the first round

There's lots who were better but none who ranked above.

In a way you're both right and you're both wrong...

Retrospect is looking at the opinions of the time and revising the on the basis of new evidence.

Retrospect can't change that some people bought the Wilder hype train hook, line and sinker and were duped enough to ignore how crazily different these guys resumes were.

Retrospect makes it even more obvious that Joshua was both the better fighter by far, and would've finished it early...
But there are still guys who think Wilder would've survived long enough to land the full telegraph, full power bum-zooka punch and won - it doesn't matter to them how little Wilder proved, they can't admit it and will find excuses for how Fury ruined him (despite Fury being famously not a big puncher) to explain away the later losses to fighters better than anyone he ever beat.

New evidence cant replace old opinion though.

    What was, was.

Indeed... And you're right about that.

But regardless of what he believed at the time, there were a not insignificant minority of mentally challenged individuals who thought Wilder was better... And he's right about that.

Doesn't matter that you had to be insane in the moment and even more so in retrospect, those people walked along us like Charles Martin.

Thats never been the debate neither. Plenty of people can think Wilder would have beaten AJ. But those people didnt rank Wilder as the number 1 HW in the world.

Sadly, there really were people who did...

As dumb an opinion as it was, there were.

Unfortunately thats not quite the case, even if it may seem that way at first glance.

AJ was, at differing points by differing people, ranked as the number 1 HW in the world.

I mean, we both know there were people who believed Wilder was #1 all along... People with windows absolutely covered in saliva, and ginger beard hairs in one case, and we both know people like that really did believe it.

The statement isn't that "nobody who had a clue what they were talking about" believed Wilder was #1 - that would be obviously self defeating...

I doubt at any point, for example, someone like Neetz/Redbeard had AJ at #1 - I'd bet he had Wilder as #1 right up until the demolition in Wilder-Fury 2.

Consensus was always strongly in AJ's favour... But that's not the same as saying no-one thought otherwise.

Oh there's absolutely people who believed it, but that's not what im disputing.

Im saying AJ was ranked by everyone as the number 1 HW. Which is something Norton never was.
